Huge Task Ahead

I agree with Hilda Mitchell’s letter “Let Reconciliation Be Our Mantra” (Nov. 7), written before the election. I also desire that reconciliation be our goal.
We moved to Southern Pines in 1989. I am a non-affiliated voter who was an Eisenhower Democrat. My vote has been Republican in Moore County. To work for reconciliation is to register as a Democrat.
It seems that the speaker of the house will seek to be cooperative, though his control of the members of his party has been difficult in the past. I voted to re-elect President Obama. His task is huge but, with a cooperative legislature, much can be accomplished.
My greatest relief that President Obama was re-elected is that he will nominate District and Appellate Court judges.
Most nominations to the Supreme Court come from the lower courts. As we all know, the Supreme Court legislated from the bench that corporations have a right to express their views on public policy.
The wealthy have and will support policy positions at the national and state levels.
Let us work together for our country and the world in which our president and our country have such great influence.
