Erroneous Information

I am very disappointed that The Pilot would put a letter in the paper that obviously is in error!

The letter by Ron VanHoover, “Take the Litmus Test” (Oct. 28), is inaccurate in many areas. His “litmus test” is totally ridiculous, but I will point out only his number (5) comment.

He claims “the GM plant was closed before Obama took office.” Please read Wikipedia Web page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Janesville_GM_Assembly_Plant.

The plant was largely idled in December 2008, and ceased all remaining production April 2009. At a ceremony on Dec. 23, 2008, photos were taken showing the employees with a banner reading “Last Vehicle Off the Janesville Line.”

The last vehicle was sold in a raffle benefiting the United Way. The photo can be seen on the Wikipedia site. There were 57 production employees who continued work until April 2009.

Why would Paul Ryan, who has lived in Janesville all his life, say anything untrue about this?

And I will add, Romney does not propose to cut taxes for millionaires. What an unfounded remark! Should Obama be re-elected, the middle class will find itself mired in new taxes, thanks to Obamacare.

Lastly, no comparison can be made to the money raised by the president.

Remember, he flew to Vegas for a fundraiser the day after the murders in Benghazi. Talk about millionaires?

He flies back and forth to Hollywood for additional funds, and it is on Air Force One (America’s plane, our money, at his disposal).

Lane, Romney himself said he will reduce taxes for millionaires. Obama's campaign pays by a standard formula applicable to all presidents for non-official use (such as campaign stops) of Air Force One. Ryan lies about so many things its hard to keep track. But GM announced on June 8, 2008 that it was going to close the Janesville plant.GM produced the last vehicle there in December 2008. Obama took office the next month.

That's close enough for thinking people.

The 'taxes' from ObamaCare only apply to freeloaders who refuse to buy health care policies and instead expect the rest of us to pick up the tab for their medical problems. Fewer than 2% of taxpayers are expected to fall into that category. What ever happened to Republicans and personal responsibility? Wasn't it Romney who put a system like this in place in Massachusetts? Where were your complaints then?

I notice that Romney was campaigning right after Benghazi. In fact, he's trying to capitalize on those deaths. What a ghoul.

JimHeim 1 hour, 59 minutes ago ...Wasn't it Romney who put a system like this in place in Massachusetts?

Romney 70 some pages vs ACA of 2400+ pages...nothing like the same. And when you add the additional documents and legislation to the ACA; it's around 170,000 pages. Pelosi said she or we would not know what's in it until it's passed...and we still don't....Mike

http://kurtsperspective.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-many-pages-are-in-affordable-care.html

MikeNC, does Romneycare require most residents of Massachusetts to have a health care policy? Is there a penalty tax for not having one? It doesn't take long to get the answers to those questions. And that is what the author of this letter was complaining about. He's all upset that moochers who want the rest of us to cover their health care will have to pay a penalty tax.

You're welcome to change the subject, but doing so suggests that you have no idea what you're talking about ... not that I'm surprised.

Heim, I don't know anything about Romneycare...but obamacare was not needed, adds billions of dollars to the debt, and uses over sixteen thousand new "tax people" to administer. You can't be serious that you really like that crap! The business community doesn't trust obama and will not spend or hire until he's gone. If Romney is elected I predict that the country will improve literally overnight!

firepest, unless we do something dramatic, health care costs in this country will bankrupt most of us in less than ten years. At least Obama is willing to do something about it. Where are your Republicans?

And according to CBO, ObamaCare reduces the federal deficit. What's your source that it will make the deficit worse?

Whats the difference?

State vs Federal

Thats the only difference that matters, States can do what they want, the federal government can not.

PERIOD.

Understand this. Obamacare RAIDED the medicare for 750billion and now medicare changed its policies and seniors cannot get some of the care they once had.because the money is not there. FACT!!!!! Thank you Obama. We did NOT need a medical care overhaul, if anything we needed proper controls with insurance companies, the way they worked, and the way they paid. There was NOTHING WRONG with Health care. America had the best care in the world. Obama has seen fit to drop the care factor down to the eurocare style.

Now as to the GM plant closing, the Janesville plant was NOT closed but on haitus until new contracts came in. Obama and the bailout program did aid in closing the plant for good. But I don't really lay this at the feet of Obama as much as I look as excessive union contracts that has meds it nearly impossible to have out auto makers compete on the world stage. And Obama DOES support the trade union cause.

Njc17...don't fret over Jimmy...he can't make a statement on his own without checking the liberal playbook first. He is one of those who has put the Democrat party over his country. And Jimmy, the Republicans tried to participate in the law making and were told to sit in the back of the bus. And I don't know why you still refer to that year old CBO statement...my understanding is that they no longer say it will do anything but raise the deficit!!

"Obamacare RAIDED the medicare for 750billion and now medicare changed its policies and seniors cannot get some of the care they once had.because the money is not there"

FACT: The verbs vary. The 2010 overhaul "cut," "gutted," "robbed," "stole," "raided" and "slashed" $700 billion from Medicare, politicians have said, "reducing benefits" for the elderly.

PolitiFact has rated many versions of this claim since the health care bill was working its way through Congress in 2009 — and most often rated it Mostly False.

We've found that it's a reduction in the future growth of Medicare spending, not a cut in existing programs, and it came largely from Medicare Advantage and other areas that would not affect traditional Medicare benefits.

Yet the talking point lived on, cited repeatedly in interviews, speeches, debates, op-eds, news releases, emails, campaign websites, Facebook postings and innumerable TV ads.

PolitiFact National and our state partners fact-checked versions of this claim more than 30 times — from candidates, campaign committees, interest groups and super PACs.

Birth of a talking point

" if anything we needed proper controls with insurance companies, the way they worked, and the way they paid."

Big Insurance has legislators in their hip pockets. They own Washington writing many of the laws legislating the insurance industry

Here's your link ... select any Senate or House Rep's and see how many insurance companies pay for their votes!

There was NOTHING WRONG with Health care. America had the best care in the world.

Only that only a few can afford the premiums, and when one submits a valid claim, it is rejected due to a pre-existing condition;

O' the miss-guided and ill-informed!

"Obama has seen fit to drop the care factor down to the eurocare style."

Canada isn't in Europe to start with ... every president in the last 50 years stumped on a national health care system (even Reagan) and only Obama followed through with his promise ... the US is the only democracy in the world that doesn't provide free healthcare and education!

Prove me wrong ....

"As the Romney campaign debates itself about whether the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate is an evil tax or an unconstitutional penalty, it’s worth remembering that Republican presidential icon Ronald Reagan imposed his own national healthcare mandate on the country. The mandate is well know today — it requires emergency rooms to treat anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay — but the fact that Reagan signed it into law is often forgotten."

Here's your link, so prove me wrong!

More FACTS: njc17

"The law was often mentioned during the Obamacare debate, as both sides noted that Americans are already paying for poor people’s medical care, either directly or indirectly through this law. But one wonders if the conservatives today would support Reagan’s health mandate, considering that it imposes restrictions on hospitals, shifts costs to the private sector and individual insurance holders, and explicitly mandated the treatment of undocumented immigrants."

TAP - The Supreme Court disagrees with you. They say the federal government can do this.

The_AnonymusProfit 6 months, 2 weeks ago

@ jim

I dont care what the supreame court said. Last time this happened there was a civil war. But imsure that was just over slavery right?

When a majority of americans say no and a small unelected group of autocrats say ues...that is called tyranny.

Lefties still can not understand the basic Romney intent; increase revenue by reducing taxes and regulations on business. Reducing regulations allows companies - and markets - to expand and new business to start. Cutting taxes gives those who work more of their own money to spend, thus helping the small business get going, keep going, expand. The up side of that is....they will pay more back to the gomint in earnings. Reducing the tax on interest and dividends provides more money for folks to borrow to purchase stuff. It is all very simple.
What Obama and his cabal want to do is to turn us into another socialist, debt ridden third world country ruled by tyranny. Read commie manifesto 101, Marx, Mao, Alynski or Soros. Throw in the teachings of Clowerd and Pivens and Jim Ayers. Back to slavery. So your choice in this election is simple; tyranny or freedom.

TAP - If you ever read the Confederate Constitution, you would know very well that it was about slavery. The same reason we have an Electoral College.

marathon - This week's Economist says that Romney's economic plan lowers government revenue by over $7 trillion. Just how do you think he's going to make that up so that he doesn't grow the federal deficit. Magic?

turntheothercheek 6 months, 2 weeks ago

It will never stop amazing me what people will believe. Look for facts people. And believe it or not, just because Romney says it over and over (that is, when he doesn't flip flop back and forth) doesn't make it true.
I can't wait until Tues, when Obama is re-elected, and at least some of these constant lies will stop being told.

DannySteen 6 months, 2 weeks ago

So, does it now mean that when a republican suggest “a reduction in the future growth” democrats can’t wail on about it being the end of the world? Marathonman, they do “understand the basic Romney intent”. But that would as you say “gives those who work more of their own money to spend”. They can’t have that. If the people can do without the government they will no longer need the Government and the Government will lose its grip. The left is all about Government. Government is their religion and their Messiah has come. But don’t get me wrong. The hard core right is not much different. They want control as much as the hard core left does. The difference is the outlying followers of the right do not have the belief in government that the majority of the left does. We need the freedom loving voters who would like our Republic to be what it should be to vote the messiah off his throne and as soon as Romney steps out of line boot his behind as well. What we really need is a viable alternative. The libertarian party is not it. Not yet. It needs to grow up before it can grow. But I am afraid that will have to wait till after the fall. If we survive.
