Adam and Lucy Valenti will host the fifth BackPack Pals Benefit Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at their restaurant in Vass.

All money donated will directly benefit the BackPack Pals program at the Vass-Lakeview Elementary School.

BackPack Pals is a program of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Valenti's will provide a delicious dinner consisting of Tuscan Italian soup, chicken parmigiano over spaghetti, homemade tiramisu and coffee.

There are only 80 tickets at $25 each available, which can be obtained by calling Valenti's Restaurant at (910) 639-2895 or Carl at (910) 245-7145.

"We will also accept any additional donations at the dinner," says a spokesman. "The Vass Lions Club is once again assisting Adam and Lucy in this most worthy fundraising event."

In the past four years, this event has raised almost $10,000 for the program, which provides perhaps the only food that some children will have for the weekend.

"At Vass-Lakeview, nearly 100 kids eat lunch at 11 a.m. >on Friday, and won't eat again until school breakfast on Monday," says the spokesman. "This wonderful program provides these hungry children with enough >food every Friday to get them through the weekend." >

Music will be provided by Alan and Deb Daubenspeck, who have contributed their talents for each of the past events.
