According to police, the resident reported that a black male knocked on the door to the home and asked the homeowner if they were interested in taking a survey in exchange for a bottle of Clorox. A black female later accompanied this male indicating that she was the male’s supervisor and that the male was attempting to win a trip to Puerto Rico.

Further in the conversation the suspicious individuals asked the resident if they would be interested in assisting a family by providing a dollar a day.

The practice of going in and on private residences in the town by solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants, or transient vendors is prohibited in Southern Pines without a valid business license.

No such license has been issued, police said.
