The Gilbert Theater concludes its 2011-2012 season, the last for founding artistic director Lynn Pryer, with the Broadway musical spoof "The Musical of Musicals - The Musical!" directed by Gail Morfesis.
The show, making its Fayetteville debut, was performed off-Broadway from 2003 until 2005 and was nominated for several Drama Desk awards.
The production features five vignettes, each sending up and celebrating a different broadway composer and writer, including Rodgers and Hammerstein, Kander and Ebb, and Steven Sondheim. The large cast of local actors includes Patrick Brenneman, Efrain Colon, Bruce Cook, Ruth Crews, April Dudash, Cheryl Edson, Tracey Hinton, Terry Levitt, Joyce Lipe, Cary Mundell, Elenor Sullivan and Paul Wilson.
This production will be the 100th and final production for founding artistic director Lynn Pryer, who is retiring at the conclusion of this production. Pryer's contribution to the Gilbert and the larger Fayetteville community will be celebrated in a landmark Century Celebration that includes a performance of "The Musical of Musicals - The Musical!" Friday, June 1. Pryer and Robyne Parrish, the new artistic director, are working to ensure a successful production as the Gilbert turns a page on its storied history.
The production runs from May 31-June 17, Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each except for the Century Celebration on June 1, and can be reserved through the box office by calling (910) 678-7186 or at www. gilberttheater.com.
