Kudos to Steve Bouser for his column “Late Thoughts on Amendment One” (May 9), on his views on “What would Jesus do?” if confronted with the gay marriage issue.

It may be one man’s view, but it certainly struck a chord with me and reflected the Sunday School teachings I received growing up in a mainline church.

I later learned it was the same denomination that fought for the emancipation of slaves.

It’s interesting how religions can either teach inclusiveness and tolerance for others or exclusiveness and intolerance, and both use the the same book to teach it from.
