On the weekend of April 21, the members of our Moore County community once again rallied to support a worthy cause.
The American Cancer Society sponsored the Moore County Relay for Life event.
More than 30 teams of fundraisers, walkers and supporters invested their time, money and energy into making this event extremely successful.
The American Cancer Society set a goal of $55,0000 for this event.
Thanks to the support of a caring community, the event raised more than $70,000.
The funds from this event are used for many things, including research, programs such as “Look Good, Feel Good,” support literature, expenses for cancer patients, and other worthwhile programs.
Under the capable leadership of chair JoAnn Allen, the committee worked directly with many local businesses, who became corporate sponsors. Schools, churches and other businesses registered teams, held fundraising events and participated in the weekend, hosted by Sandhills Community College.
Volunteers provided a variety of music, dancing and other activities for participants.
A survivors’ dinner the weekend prior to the event hosted local cancer survivors and caregivers at Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst.
The Pilot did an outstanding service in supporting the event by publishing articles about local cancer survivors and event information. There is no “thank-you” large enough to cover the appreciation the event planners would like to express to everyone involved in this endeavor.
I encourage community individuals and groups to get involved, seek information and participate.
Together we can win the battle against cancer and celebrate “Moore Birthdays!”
