Patriots Sweep SEC Track Championships

The Pinecrest boys repeated, and the Patriot girls unseated Scotland High as champions, at the Southeastern Conference track and field championships that were completed at Pinecrest on Wednesday.

Abby Snyder and Jenny Cunningham both won two individual events for the Patriot girls and Snyder was named SEC Female Runner of the Year. The Patriot girls trailed the Scots by 40 points after the first day of field events.

The Patriot boys’ Becket Killam won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs in meet record times. The Pats came out of the first day of field events in good shape with Matt Carllson winning the discus, James Kennedy grabbing a first in the long jump and a second in the triple jump, and Jay Harris leading a sweep in the pole vault.

Team scores: Boys – Pinecrest 170, Scotland 163, Richmond Senior 108, Hoke County 88, Lumberton 18; Girls – Pinecrest 168, Scotland 153.5, Hoke 103, Lumberton 53, Richmond 32.5, Purnell Swett 20.
