Mustangs Struggle in Conference Golf

The North Moore golf team hosted the third Yadkin Valley Conference match of the season at Little River Golf Resort Monday.

After having a breakout performance in their previous outing where the Mustangs finished fifth overall, North Moore struggled on its home course, finishing seventh overall with a team score of 207.

Gray Stone won its second team match with a round of 160, followed by Albemarle and West Montgomery with both teams shooting 170s. South Davidson took fourth place with a 184, and Chatham Central, the winner of last week’s match, shot a score of 195, followed by South Stanly with a 203, North Moore, North Rowan (215) and East Montgomery (216).

West Montgomery’s Dylan Kennedy was the medalist for the match with a nine-hole score of 37, followed by Albemarle’s Chandler Keck and Gray Stone’s Erik Benson, both with rounds of 38. Gray Stone’s Chase Davis was fourth with a score of 39.

North Moore was paced by Seth Brady with a 46, followed by teammates Dillon Caviness with 49, Mason Morris 55, Brandon Purvis 56, Cole Garner 57, and Alec Hall 59.

In the overall individual standings, Benson and West Montgomery’s Jordan Taylor led after three matches with total scores of 115s, followed by Keck, Davis and Kennedy, all two shots back.

North Moore’s Caviness is 21st overall with a 149, followed by teammate Morris in 23rd place with a 151.

In the overall team standings, Gray Stone leads West Montgomery by 30 strokes with the Knights having a score of 483, followed by the Warriors with 513. Albemarle is third with a 525, followed by Chatham Central with 535, South Davidson 592, South Stanly 626, North Moore 629, East Montgomery 635, and North Rowan 639.

The conference had a match scheduled for last Thursday, but was postponed until Tuesday. Chatham Central was the host for the match at Siler City Country Club.
