A Southern Pines man faces a felony first-degree sexual assault charge in connection with a incident that was reported in December 2010, according to police.

Edward Kinton Wallace, 36, is also charged with felony sexual battery and felony assault on a handicapped person.

The charges stem from an investigation into an incident that occurred at 3:43 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2010.

The victim was treated and released from the emergency room at First Health Moore Regional hospital.

Police presented their case to the grand jury, which returned a true bill indictment.

Police arrested Wallace on Wednesday.

He appeared before a county magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County jail under a $25,000 secured bond pending a hearing on April 12 in superior court.
