A Southern Pines man has been charged with murder in connection with a 2009 shooting death.
Southern Pines police officers on Sunday arrested Antonio Lamont McKeithan, 37, of the 1200 block of West Wisconsin Avenue, and charged him with first-degree murder.
According to the Moore County jail website, McKeithan is also facing three counts of probation violations.
The arrest stems from an investigation into a shooting that happened about 11:30 p.m. July 20, 2009, near 330 South Stephens St.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired with person down and discovered the victim, Daniek Davon Burns, 20, of 400 N. Hardin St., had been shot. He was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, where he later died from his wounds.
McKeithan appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was jailed without bond pending a hearing on March 21 in District Court.
Police department officials were unavailable for comment Tuesday to provide any other details on the arrest.

Why did this take 3 years to figure out?

@ FightFireWithFire: Don't take any offense but to answer your question: Because this isn’t CSI or Law and Order. It typically takes more than three days and a blood stain that can be analyzed in 20 minutes by the super computer and the guy isn’t conveniently squealed on by a stool pigeon that got slipped a few bucks by the cops. Murders can take time to track down especially if the murderer is careful and bouncing around. TV and movies have warped our sense of space and time.

Really? Well I'll be damned. I guess someone should have told me that when I went through BLET. I must have had lousy instructors.
