The Sandhills Flyers (23-6) begin postseason play on Saturday with a 3 p.m. Region X tournament semifinal contest against Caldwell Community College (20-6).

The three-day event held at Rockingham CC in Wentworth gets under way on Friday with a game between Wytheville CC and Central Carolina CC. The winner of that game meets regular-season league champion Davidson County Community College in Saturday’s 1 p.m. semifinal.

Saturday’s winners play for the championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Games involving the Flyers will be broadcast live on WEEB 990 AM and streamed live on weeb990.com.

The Flyers, coached by Mike Apple, and Caldwell both finished in a tie for second place with records of 5-3 in the league. They split their two regular-season games. Davidson County CC (28-2) is the defending tournament champion.

The Region 10 winner will host a four-team district tournament starting March 9. The team that survives that competition makes the eight-team Division III National Championship field. That tournament will be held at Sullivan County CC in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., beginning March 15.

Flyer sophomore Raheem Jolliffe was named the NJCAA Division III Player of Week for the week of Feb. 22. The 5-foot-10 guard scored 35 points off the bench in a win over Central Carolina and 16 in a victory over Stevens Prep.
