Southern Pines police are searching for information and a suspect in connection with the slaying of a Southern Pines man that occurred shortly before midnight Tuesday.

“We are getting input and following up on every lead,” said Lt. Rodney Hardy. “But we need more.”

Police responded to the 300 block of Shaw Avenue at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday for a report of multiple gunshots fired. David Rashawn Shaw, 28, was shot at least once and found on the ground outside 396 Shaw Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hardy said that a crowd had assembled when officers arrived. He estimated the size to be between 60 and 100 individuals. Due to the crowd and the emotional nature of the situation, officers from Aberdeen and Pinehurst were requested to provide crowd control.

No other injuries were reported during the incident, and officers were able to process the scene, Hardy said.

Funeral services for Shaw will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Southern Pines Primary School auditorium.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Simon Funeral Home chapel. (For the complete obituary, please see Page A8.)
