Sheriff's Office Investigating Death of SP Man as Homicide

UPDATE: The Moore County Sheriff's Office say that the autopsy on Bullock revealed that he died of gunshot wounds.

The death of a Southern Pines man who was reported missing more than a week ago is now being investigated as a homicide, officials with the Moore County Sheriff's Office said.

Neil Godfrey of the Moore County Sheriff's Office told another local media outlet "the circumstances around the way we found the body pretty much indicated it was a homicide."

He added that when the result of the autopsy came back his office was able to " pursue the case as a homicide."

The body of Lance Bullock, 34, of Southern Pines was found Monday in the Glendon area of Moore County.

Moore County Sheriff's deputies were in the Glendon area investigating some recently reported break-ins when they came upon the body, Godfrey said.

It seems loss has consumed our extended family in the past few days. Not only has John lost his son, but my niece who lives in Sanford lost her 19 year old son last evening. Lane and Sissy have lost a grandson who was like the rest of the family, a caring loving person who didn't know many strangers. Lives cut short in time when they had so much to live for especially loving family. God's speed Lance.

I've known Lance for more than half of his life and it feels like we've lost our own family member because that is just the kind of person Lance is. I am so sorry at how this turned out and my deepest sympathies go out to his whole family. Our prayers will continue to go out that the police will find those responsible and hold them accountable. This world has lost an amazing young man but Heaven has taken him back in. We love and miss you Lance. RIP my friend.

I am so very sorry to hear about Lance. I read the first article in the online Pilot a few days ago, and prayed this situation would end happily. My heart goes out to the family, and I am praying for them. It is never easy to lose a loved one. I know because over the last few years I have lost several. Now I do have this one other thing to say. I just read the comments posted about the murder of the young man in Southern Pines. I know it has been said that he had such a bad background, and so many negative comments were made regarding his death. I didn't know him personally, and I didn't know Lance personally. Nevertheless, his (David's) death was no less a tragedy than Lance's. Regardless of a person's history--good or bad, no one deserves to die by another's hand. Both men's families are grieving the loss of their loved one. Can we just all be a bit more compassionate and consider BOTH families? I sincerely hope the LEO's who are investigating both these crimes find the people responsible and the justice system does not fail us. RIP both Lance and David. I am praying for both families.

My heart is so heavy over hearing of all these deaths! Can't wait to open up the web paper to hear good news! RIP to all who've passed on lately. I hope they catch the killer of these murders soon! It leaves me uneasy to think they're still roaming our streets!
