Shadow Hill Farm and Kennel will open its doors in July to youngsters and their dogs who would like to learn how to get started in agility, obedience, rally, tracking, conformation and junior showmanship.

Participants will also learn about grooming their dogs as well as going camping and participating in other team building projects. For those not having dogs of their own, the camp can provide one for a participant's use.

Jane Hammett Bright, who was on "CBS Survivor: Nicaragua," offers this program to resident and day campers from all over the world.

"Last year, we had a special camper from Singapore named Evan," she says. "He took a 23-hour-long flight to North Carolina to attend. After learning to train and show a dog, Evan went back home and now has a Singapore champion and is competing in agility."

The camp and some of its campers have been featured in the magazines Dogs for Kids and American Girl.

"Our camp not only teaches dog responsibility and life skills to anyone who wants to train their dog, but helps campers build confidence and leadership skills," says Bright.

The camp is offered July 8-10, July 12-14, July 15-17 and July 19-21. For information, call (910) 974-3647 or (910) 220-5689 or visit www.shadowhillshelties.com.

"Some local dog folks and vets have offered some sponsorships, and we are always looking for more," says Bright. "If you would like to sponsor a camper from your area, we would be happy to refer one to you."
