Gospel Concert Sunday to Benefit Robbins Theater

More music to make money to restore the old Robbins Village Theater will make a joyful noise Sunday afternoon.

The “Gospel Gathering” fundraiser benefit will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Tabernacle United Methodist Church and will feature four gospel musical entertainers.

The gospel groups performing include Darrell Overman, Solid Rock Blue Grass (Theron Caviness, Elton Caviness, Jason Cheek, Wyatt Thompson, Gerald Atkinson and Herbert Brady) and Stacy Branch and the Sensational Jubilaires (Theron Brower, Terry Wyatt, Walt Brower, Tommy Thompson and Grant Hill).

Two former Robbins mayors — Laura Ann Brady and Theron Bell — are part of the nonprofit organization that bought the theater with help from private donors and a grant from the state’s Center for Rural Development.

“Please join us for a wonderful afternoon of gospel singing,” Bell said. “Bring your family and friends. It’s all free, but we will be selling refreshments to raise money for the theater.”

The series of Sunday afternoon gospel concerts was originally planned as “Shall We Gather By the Water” — the idea being to hold them on the banks of Bear Creek. But the shows were moved out of the summer heat.
