Fracking Danger: Read It Yourself

I am a former resident of Pennsylvania and have family and friends who live in “hotbed” areas of hydraulic fracturing.

In light of all the recent legislation action on Senate Bill 820, the “fast-track” fracking bill, I want to tell N.C. citizens how frightened I am for us all, especially for those who reside in the proposed mining sites. Please Google Amity, Pa., plus fracking, and read the horror stories for yourselves.

Also, please go to the Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Water and Air website and read through the entire “list of the harmed,” which currently has more than 200 entries on it and is always being updated. Read this list and then listen to your heart.

As far as hydraulic fracturing bringing jobs to the locals, that’s a joke! Most gas workers are experienced workers from other states, such as Texas and Oklahoma.

Many states and countries throughout the world have made fracking illegal. Why is North Carolina rushing into something that is only going to bring harm to its citizens, as well as to the animals and environment?

Please read “the list” and then contact your representatives and senators, as well as Gov. Perdue.

Why is North Carolina rushing into this? Simple answer, Trish. A republican legislature, bought and paid for by energy companies.

Jeezs, what is it with you democrats. GET OVER IT!!!!! YOU LOST!!!!!! It took more then just republicans in the legislature to pass the fracking bill. I feel that the reason that bill got past was the greed of the elected officials. The gas supply in shale rock is not as big as first thought and if we just start drilling on such a massive scale then the current price for the product will fall off and never generate the amount of revenue that the politicans promised. The biggest fear that I have about the whole process is what about the water shed getting polluted by the fracking solution? Anyone have long term study information??

Thank you Trish for lending your voice to the onset of the next major catastrophic event since Hurricane Hazel.

DingoMike => Bev Purdue vetoed the last attempt by Republicans. If you've read my last threads I provided a link to her veto. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll re-post. The first DENER report condemned Fracking way back in 2003. Not much has changed other than the political real estate. Tillman and Boles supports Fracking and they are Republicans. Perhaps you are confused as to who actually lost in the May Primary; the people of North Carolina with a Republican House and Senate.

@ toda I agree that fracking is not good, having said that, our new legislature is doing for the most part 10 fold better then the previous.

http://www.change.org/petitions/no-fracking-in-nc Many of you have already signed this petition and forwarded it along to others or posted it to social media. Thank you very much for your support and willingness to be heard. For those who have not and wish to, please take this simple step to alert our representatives that they need to think before they vote. Bev Perdue has the petition, let's just hope she takes it to heart. Many thanks in advance.

TAP => Could you add some specifics to your "10 fold better then the previous" claim? Your statement is open ended without substance.

Elections have consequences and unfortunately Moore County elected supporters of fracking. The Jim Crow 2.0 Legislature that made many people in NC 2nd class citizens (combined with the ignorance of many NC Citizens) is now bowing to powerful corporate interests at your expense. There is not a single state, where fracking now takes place, that has done it problem free. If Perdue doesn't veto I hope you will remember who was responsible when the water becomes poison and the landscape forever scarred. I would also say remember that key sponsors of the bill don't live in the areas where fracking would occur.

@DingoMike - "Jeezs, what is it with you democrats. GET OVER IT!!!!! YOU LOST!!!!!!" What do you mean "you" lost?? WE lost!Emphasis Fracking will hurt each and every one of us. I wonder...when you see someone you love suffer with cancer caused by drinking contaminated water, are you going to say, "Get over it, you lost!"????

@toda usually I would go into detail, but at this point the last year simply speaks for itself. Have fun at scc maybe you'll learn something.

From a purely philosophical standpoint, what is it that divides people so much on this fracking issue? The facts do not support a very high supply of the gas, all signs indicate it won't make for many local jobs, and it could seriously contaminate our groundwater because of our geologic conditions. Dems, Repubs, Independents, Tea Party, etc. should ask why we should move forward on this. I seriously hope it's not blind allegiance to a party, because that doesn't make any sense at all. I understand being allegiant to a party over social or fiscal issues (akin to a faith argument), but on this one the numbers don't add up under any calculation or rational, forward-thinking viewpoint. It's OK to be pro-drinking-water and pro-life, guns, religion, etc. In fact, if you see the effect of dirty water in other countries, a pro-life position would be to support measures to clean the water, as it contributes to infant mortality. Life is still life when it is out of the womb, yet we're willing to ignore the carcinogens that effect our kids once they are born in the name of business and jobs.

Will water shortages in the state have consequences on fracking? Or is it the other way around?

TAP ~ "Have fun at scc maybe you'll learn something."

I tutored at SCC, obviously you wasn't one of my students...you would write much better. I haven't attended any classes in several years; I have been on campus taking classes in preparation for the MPA program.

Perhaps you may want to visit IYOGI as one indication of Romney job creation - in India! If anyone thinks our country is in a mess now, revert back to the Bush years and watch a total collapse of a democracy.

drefluery,

As a soon to retire member of the House stated years ago: "Republicans believe in the sanctity of human life, from the moment of conception to the moment of birth."

He was right then, he's even more right now.

Gonna miss ole Barney.
