A commentary from a man from Southern Pines, “He’s Not Patriotic” (June 6), relative to the absence of the American flag not flown at many buildings on Memorial Day, goes on to say, “We have a president today who is not patriotic,” and who complains that the Constitution is not relevant today, that ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ is too violent in wording, and that our flag needs a new design.
He further states, “We need a president who is proud of America and proud of speaking about this great country.”
Interestingly, the following day on CNN, commentator Carol Costello broadcast radio show host Bill Press’ comments relative to the national anthem: “I don’t think patriotism has anything to do with it. The national anthem is just monumentally un-singable. It’s an abomination.
“The home of the brave? I don’t know. Are we (Americans) the only ones who are brave on the planet? I mean, it’s just stupid. I’m embarrassed every time I hear it.”
Comments went on to suggest “America the Beautiful” and others would be better choices. Certainly, had the president made comments relative to this subject matter, the commentator(s) would have made reference.
As a military retiree who served in a war zone, I observe this president’s actions and find absolutely nothing unpatriotic. He inherited a war and failing economy and it is up to the Congress, as well as the president, to work diligently together to solve many of America’s problems.
Perhaps the writer can provide the basis for his comments since I’ve never heard such negativity and unquestionably doubt this president or any other would make such comments. Perhaps the writer has the name Press, as in Bill Press, confused with president.

I'm in favor of "Who Let the Dogs Out" as our Nat'l Anthem.

Of course Obama didn't say any of those things. You know how you can tell a right winger is lying on this blog? His fingers are moving on the keyboard.
And the Pilot prints this garbage without comment or fact checking, so other right wing tinfoil hat looney tunes pick it up and run with it, because they read it in the paper. What a fount of disinformation this rag is. It's turned into a joke.

Reggie, take a deep breath and repeat after me...I will not take as fact ( unchecked ) any words written in the Pilot blogs by Conservatives, or Liberals, as truth. This is entertainment, big boy, and you should view it as such. I derive great pleasure from pointing out the lies and idiocy of the loonie left and Dusty and others take such same great pleasure out of the lies and idiocy that they would swear is the truth as he knows it, so swear him God. Is Obama a great patriot?? Hell no! That much can be easily established by the simplest of media researches. Are we going to get rid of him shortly? I think so, and sincerely hope so, because I don't think the country can withstand another four years of this blithering incompetent. Will Mitt be a great president? Probably not but he has, with all of his known faults, one huge advantage going into the election...he ain't Obammer!!

Amen, Skylinefirepest. I am glad that Obama has finally refrained from saying "I" did this and "I" did that. Like when he said "I" got Bin Laudin. Actually it was the military leaders that planned and got him. He just gave the thumbs up to proceed. Everytime the man opens his mouth, his foot goes in. I was highly disgusted by the recent $40,000 a plate event Sarah Jessica Parker gave to raise money. Most people in this country couldn't pay $50 a plate to spend time with a president. He definitely panders to the rich and famous and the Obamas are milking it for everything they can. Instead of concentrating on helping the people of this country, he is, and has been for months, campaigning with the rich and famous. He panders to whomever he needs to just enough to try and get their vote whether he believes what he is saying or not. If he thinks it will get the vote, say it. Now he is working on the immigrant supporting voters. The man had no experience going in and we all know why he was elected. Not for his abilities. The country is still suffering in many aspects and it is time for someone else to step in. I'm not a big Mitt fan, but he certainly cannot do any worse than what's sitting in the White House now (when he's not out sticking his foot in his mouth). Hopefully, people will leave Mitt's wife alone. I hope Obama's camp doesn't resort to talking about Mrs. Rommney not getting off her fat backside (not the word used) and working. That was beyond disgusting. As they say, politics is dirty!!

I think Obama is handsome, and that some of my conservative friends are overlooking how his handsomeness out-weighs actual results. Give it more time: being handsome can cure any economic problem. Plus the world loves us better. Because of our collective handsomeness. This is a fact, people!
