Michelle Mayeux-Satterfield is a watercolorist who also tries her hand at various other media.

Growing up in Southern California, she attended a local college concentrating on fine arts. Though she has taken workshops in California, Arizona and Virginia, her favorite one was a monthlong trip to Morelia, Mexico, to paint local models in costume.

Since moving with her husband and family to Pinehurst in 2009, Satterfield has become a full member of the Artists League of the Sandhills, currently working out of her studio there. She says loves to paint a variety of subject matter such as landscapes, flowers and street scenes.

Many of her paintings have been "plein air" - it is all about representing what she sees in the lights and shadows in a painterly fashion.

Satterfield's art has been shown in many venues, from Napa Valley, Calif., to northern Virginia, where one of her paintings was selected for Oatlands Plantation's first calendar.

In addition to her membership with the Artists League of the Sandhills, she has been a member of the California Watercolor Association, Chicago Sketch Club, Loudoun Sketch Club, and the Potomac Valley Watercolor Society.

Satterfield is a new participating artist with the About Art Gallery, located in the Market Place-Midland Bistro Restaurant Building at 2160 Midland Road, Pinehurst.

She can be found painting there most Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and welcomes viewers to visit and watch as she demonstrates in watercolor.
