Skills, teamwork and success are the tenets behind this summer’s Union Pines Lady Viking Softball Camp that takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon from June 25-28 at Lady Vike field in Cameron.
Open to rising third- through ninth-grade girls with the desire to develop their skills in the sport, the camp cost is $40 and will be directed by head coach Randy Calcutt, assistant coach Kelly Jo Fields and junior varsity coach Dana Evans, along with Union Pines softball players.
Fundamental skills of throwing, catching, running, sliding and hitting will be taught by simple drills and fun activities, with an emphasis placed on teamwork, sportsmanship and dedication. Girls interested in pitching or catching will receive focused instruction time with a pitching coach. Meanwhile, skill competitions and mini-games will be used to practice fundamentals while having fun.
According to Calcutt an ice-cream social and recognitions will reward the girls for their successful work at the end of the final session and parents are invited. Campers are asked to bring a glove, proper attire, water bottle and, if possible, a bat.
Late registration and check-in is at 9 a.m. on June 25. To pre-register, send checks or money orders written payable to Union Pines High School — attention to Randy Calcutt — along with a completed registration form and release form, both of which are attainable through the school’s online website.
Football Camp

Registration forms are available at Union Pines and are also available online at the school’s website. The web address where the form can be found is www.ncmcs.org /upfootball.
