The Moore Philharmonic Orchestra is establishing a guild to support the musicians of the orchestra and the music students of Moore County.
The guild will be made up of music lovers who want to contribute to the local performing arts without having to play an instrument.
Responsibilities will include assisting with important behind-the-scenes efforts such as record-keeping, fundraising, marketing, concert setup, decorations and concert ushering.
Since 2005, the orchestra has served the Sandhills community supporting music education and music appreciation.
In its function as a youth orchestra, the Moore Philharmonic provides an outlet for approximately 50 volunteer musicians to perform varied programs of orchestral literature.
Members include talented college, high school and middle school students and experienced adults. The orchestra performs two concerts each season and provides music for community events.
The orchestra is open to any and all Moore County music students, who may also enroll in the Moore Philharmonic as a credit hour elective course through Sandhills Community College and the Moore County public schools.
Enrollment in the course is not a requirement for participation in the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra. No fees are charged for participation.
The orchestra is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization and relies on individual and business contributions to help cover operating and general expenses and to support a scholarship fund benefiting Moore County music students.
The orchestra has provided more than $11,000 in student scholarships since 2005. For information, email MoorePhilOrch@aol.com or visit the Facebook site.
