Solutions Needed

Responding to Kevin Smith’s July 22 column, I would first say that Mitt Romney is one of the few politicians to speak to the NAACP who has been honest with them.

But they didn’t want to hear what he was going to do to help them help themselves. They wanted to know what he was going to give them.

Offensive gaffes? Our current commander-in-chief would not even pronounce “Navy corpsman” correctly, and Joe Biden is simply a life support system for a gaff. Furthermore, it is the white liberal politician who “shucks and jives” to black audiences who react with wild abandon.

By far, the biggest health threat facing the black community today is being patronized to death by the left.

The right to vote is such a cherished right, and yet Mr. Smith claims it’s not worth the cost of a birth certificate. He claims it’s a “hardship” getting a ride to go stand in line at the DMV and yet, if that was the only place to buy lottery tickets and cigarettes, I bet these “poor” people would have no trouble finding a ride to go stand in line to spend their “hard earned money” on those items.

If tomorrow’s headlines read “World to End Tomorrow,” I bet Kevin Smith would try to explain how women, children and minorities would be most affected.

He continuously attacks the free market, yet there has never been a system invented that holds a candle to the free market in serving the public interest and elevating people from poverty. In these troubled times our nation needs real solutions that actually work, and it would be nice to hear from someone who at least knows what the hell they’re talking about.

Mr. Mattocks Great letter, Apparently Mr Smith believes as most liberals that unless you patronise the NAACP with meaningless platitudes, ply them worthless promises and refrain from honest discussion, you most be a fool and/or a Racist, I suppose he feels straight talk ( The truth ) is wasted on Americans of african descent, Most conservatives hope he's wrong.

Clara-what is this fixation you have on people who live in trailers. I do not live in one but have in the past yet unlike you I don't look down on those who do. Are you such a dimwit that you don't realize that you are insulting a wide swath of people who most of the time lefties such as yourself "claim" to champion. I have long known that pretty much anything posted under your moniker is trite leftist horsedroppings, nothing has changed since your days as harleyman. I am sure if you just thought for a few minutes before grabbing the keyboard I am confident you could post something of mininal intelligence and significance. As in the past from your HM days consider yourself on ignore as far as me responding to your BS from this point on.

This one will be yanked from making comments like a bad tooth, was wondering when the article having anything to do with racial matters would arise, seems like the rules of engagement will not do any good here, any thing that moves is fair game.

The letter writer correctly notes the left's attack on free markets. I would urge all liberals here, as well as conservatives, to take 2 minutes and just listen to one of my heros, the economist Milton Friedman, as he responds to Phil Donahue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWsx1X.... Give it some thought folks. Cheers!

Someones feeling got hurt when they read this article, not mine, well stated and direct to the point, you will probably receive contact by the NAACP, they will find racial prejudice in your letter before they find the actual message you are trying to convey.Great article.

"Clara-what is this fixation you have on people who live in trailers."

Yeah, clarabelle's disdain for people living in trailers is very off-putting. If you really must hurl insults, clarabelle, please don't use classist insults.

Off topic: I once knew a man with $1 million in assets who lived in a trailer.

" WFB - Off topic: I once knew a man with $1 million in assets who lived in a trailer."

Hey - if a trailer is good enough for fugitive - it's certainly good enough for a millionaire.

and please wfb - don't use classic lame stories.

Great article Tom. Now it's up to those who believe in free enterprise, and those who were told that "if they had a business, they didn't build it", to get together in November and get this country turned around and headed in the right direction.

Thatcher, thanks for the link. Loved it and have saved it in my ever-growing archive. Now let me share this well written article on collectivism:http://pjmedia.com/blog/you-didnt-build-that-and-the-darkness-of-collective-punishment/
