The Moore County Airport Authority Wednesday announced the hiring of Steven Borden to be the new executive director at the Moore County Airport.
Borden is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force and a command pilot with more than 20 years of service.
He is also an FAA commercial pilot with single- and multi-engine ratings and an instrument rating having flown several different types of fixed wing general aviation aircraft.
His Air Force credentials also include developing policy and procedures, contract oversight, and aircrew simulator and training device acquisition. He has extensive experience leading both large and small groups ranging from five-person C-130 aircrews to more than 1,800 people.
Since his retirement from the Air Force in 2008, he has been working for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as director of academics and instructor of business administration. His responsibilities included the leadership and mentoring of assigned faculty members and oversight of academic programs at the Greensboro campus. He also taught management, leadership, human resources and military history.
Borden and his wife, Judy, and two children, Sydney and Alex, live in Pinehurst.
For the past several years, Ron Maness and Carol Thomas have served as co-directors for the Moore County Airport.
Both will remain with the airport in different capacities. Maness will serve as a consultant for U.S. Open planning and Thomas will work as special assistant for grants and contracts.

FightFireWithFire: in case you don't know Ron Maness is also a former USAF pilot, flew with the USAF Thunderbirds and also flew as an airline pilot for USAir for many years. It isn't as if he lacked credentials. Should verify your facts before criticizing. cantsnandya: no one stays in the same position forever. If your "...look at who he has to deal with..." remark refers to the Airport Authority have you volunteered to serve? If your remark refers to the the few but highly vocal non-pilot, non aircraft owning folks who are continuously critical of the airport for a serious of totally bogus reasons you are exactly correct, managing the airport is indeed a tough job but someone has to be willing to stand up and do it. If your remark refers to the based aircraft owners and pilots your remark simply makes no sense. You also should research the history of the airport, particularly as it pertains to the legislation that led to the creation of the Airport Authority.
