Experience the magic of storytelling Thursday, July 19, at 5:30 p.m. as the Southern Pines Public Library holds Family Fun Night.
Children will travel through the land of dreams with storyteller Morgen Reynolds and explore "1,001 Nights."
Last month Family Fun Night kicked off with stargazing. Presented by Bob Howell, the program was devoted to learning about constellations and the myths behind them. Afterward, the children developed their own stories and constellations.
Two more Family Fun programs will be held this summer.
On Sunday, July 22, at 2:30 p.m., the library will host Sunday Afternoon at the Movies.
"Beat the heat and enjoy refreshments while watching a free family movie on the big screen," says a library spokesman.
Summer Family Fun Nights conclude with a visit from some night creatures, held on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 5:30 p.m. Children will learn about animals that go bump in the night from a Weymouth Woods ranger.
Kids and families may also wish to attend other free summer reading programs offered by the library. These include preschool storytimes, and book clubs for children, teens and adults.
To ensure that "Southern Pines Grows Great Readers," the library is providing lots of fun opportunities for families to read and learn together all summer long.
"Don't let your reading skills do the 'summer slide' -go back to school an even better reader than you were last year!" says the spokesman.
