Trina, let me tell you a bit about illegals. Move to Texas and spend some time there and you'll learn about illegals. They come illegally into the country, absolutely refuse to learn English, take jobs away from Americans because they will work basically "under the table" for less than minimum wage, and after they finish doing whatever work for the day, they go to the convenience stores and load up on beer and junk food. I know as I lived in Texas for over eight years and saw it on a daily basis. I have seen big companies there fined millions of dollars for employing and hiding illegals. One large seafood restaurant chain moved the illegals from one site to the other hiding them. They were investigated and caught and had to pay millions in fines. If they want to be here, then they need to do what other immigrants have over the last century and follow the rules to become citizens. Anything other is unacceptable.

(2) did these tribes ever fight each other over who actually owned the "parcel" in dispute? (3) as part of the fighting, did these tribes ever enslave those members of other tribes whom they captured? (4) to whom did Mexico once belong? (5) what about Canada? Jeez bent sounds like you just need to be a cruiser and be done with it. The rebel is small its only a 250 but it gets 74 miles to the gallon and will not shake at 70 mph.

Bentpan,You are to be commended for your refusing to use illegals,but many others do,several local outfits,from roofers,masons,concrete finishers and painters,how I know is I also was in the building business for many years,we have had iron workers in this area also that I have worked with,many do have legit documents,many do not,with the slow down in this area many have moved on but when it picks up again as many are in hopes it will they may return or not,it is getting harder to secure employment with the verify laws but for the last several years we have had our share in this area,many are very hard workers and if that were all it took to be here legally then we would probably see many more,but thats not the case,they need to take the way to legal entry or they are just illegals,those are the ones that have caused the controversy.

Do you really want to go back in History and figure out who was where first to settle land claims? Absurd. I am a moderate in my politics, but I do feel strongly about illegals being here, because they are just that--illegal. I teach school and in my classroom I have students whose parents crossed the border illegally and ended up in NC. Trina, that means their children, however, get free education, free meals in school including a healthy snack,free medical, free dentist, etc. The parents get paid under the table so there's no tax to to our government. They may work hard but there's no benefit to us. My work as a teacher is almost doubled because I have so much more to do for Spanish translations, yet I get no other pay. I have students of Hispanic heritage born in the US say, "I am Mexican, not American." Where's the justice in that? I wish no one harm, especially children, but there has to be more balance and equity for US citizens.

GoldenDreams Excellent post that covers many of the aspects of the problems inherent to our uninvited trespassers, if you enter my home or my country by invitation, you're an honored guest, perhaps even to become a member of our familly, a citizen, but when you sneak in, you're a thief. taking resources, goods and services you are not entitled to. Placing an unfair burden on those who provide those services, not to mention the American who now receives less because it has to be spread further and the taxpayers who foot the bill.

Right on Bentpan! I lived in South America and went to High School there. You can go to any U.S. Embassy on any given day and see the lines around the Block of those who want to come here and the thing is we can't let them all in.By the way if you go to the Cuban or any that reflect the society that this Administration advocates.....Lines are pretty short. When the folks come here from China they'll find that our liberal government has already given them the economy so the land isn't far behind, Russell44. Incidentally, Trina, the local governments spend a fortune on training emergency workers to get some basic language training. And while I haven't kept records I'll bet you that if you ask any fireman or policeman you'll find that once the Latinos wreck their car and or someone else's, they only bother to stick around about five to ten percent of the time. AND why can't our government work on the alien problem while trying to solve some of our other problems at the same time? Could it be that our politicians are so busy trying to spin Obama's lies that they don't have time to attend to the duties of the country??

Trina, Take a hard look at some of the illegals riding the parking lot of the Aberdeen Walmart after dark. They are definitely not the best contributors to our economic system. Please do go into the local McDonald's and find an English application so one of my kids can apply for a job. They have none available. Like every society there are good and bad people. I don't appreciate their free use of our money for healthcare. Go to UNC Chapel Hill or Duke and you will notice that most of the people in the waiting areas are Mexican-Latinos who require an interpreter because they cannot speak the English language. If you speak to one they will whip out the Medicaid card. Then there's National security (terrorism was mentioned before). The education system gets overloaded with kids who require assistance with supplies, fees waived, meals... So that the boys can disrespect and treat the women teachers like garbage and ignore the male teachers because they know that the teachers are not allowed to administer corporal punishment (spanking/paddling). They destroy equipment because its fun, are a few examples. Once an anchor baby is born here, how do you deport them back home? By splitting families? We all understand that America is a land of immigrants. But as President Roosevelt said - If the immigrant does not become one with his new nation it is doomed to fail. That means language, society, laws, work, taxes, ect. There are those here illegally who do not cause harm and contribute like they are supposed to. If they can prove it , I say let those few become citizens. We have a system thats in place for a reason. Over 3 million a year is to much for any economy to handle. The system is not perfect. But it has a purpose.

One can't help but wonder what the difference is between an illegal and an undocumented person, regardless of which country they may have come from...the bigger of the two questions resides with how many are here on expired Visa's who are supposed to be attending universities in this country. Thinking in terms of "terrorists", they just pass through terminal gates at major airports and vanish! Not too many of Hispanic's have issued Jihad against Americans.

When I operated my construction business, all of my subs including Hispanic's, were required to have insurance ~ Liability and Workers Compensation. I had two subcontractors who had met the same requirements as white subcontractors; the difference the Hispanics would work from sun up to sundown producing better quality work than the White subcontractors. They didn't complain, agreed on a price, and didn't find ways to up-charge as their work was concluding. I never had to go find them to perform punch list work, like so many Lumbee subs. I always got what I expected and in most cases, a bit more than what I asked for in our contract. I never had an issue with their 1099's reporting earned income...now on the other hand, Lumbee subs would cancel insurance a day after their insurance company sent the paperwork. Some never paid taxes and had judgments trialing behind every job. Never had that problem with Hispanics....

If one is trying to find a porous border crossings into the US for terrorists, try Canada.

As far as drugs, I have never seen a hippy Hispanic; drugs have been a part of our culture since Indians discovered peyote mushrooms growing under the western sky's.
