I have been a Republican since I voted for Tom Dewey in 1948. However, I have some questions for today’s right wing radicals.
What would the country be like without the Interstate highway system, the federal aviation safety standards, the food and drug standards, interstate pollution limits, international trade agreements, national drilling and mining safety rules, etc.?
In addition, is compassion for the poor out of date?

I think there is a typo in the above letter. Based on the wording and sound bytes borrowed, I think REPUBLICAN in the first sentence was supposed to be DEMOCRAT.
"In addition, is compassion for the poor out of date?" -This especially is a crazy accusation implying that "right wing radicals" have no compassion for the poor. Sorry I don't believe there are many Republicans since 1948 who would ask such a question. Liberals however have a habit of thinking they have a corner on the market for compassion.

Well hello there Eugeane Lets just answer some of your questions shall we
As to the interstate highway system, one of the clear roles that the federal government was given constitutional authority over was the creation and maintenance of interstate infrastructure such as the Interstate system(side note interstates are built large enough to land B-52 Bombers on) I cant think of any republican(though im sure someone could dig up one somewhere) who has condemned the building of the Interstate system. Infrastructure is required to keep our country moving
As to the Federal Aviation business, there is a clear misconception among uneducated(and by this I mean people who listen to the 6 o'clock news and take as word from GOD) that Republicans despise regulation of any kind. This is emphatically untrue. We are conservatives and republicans and to a lesser but still not completely devoid sense libertarians, understand that there must be some regualtion to keep us from say flying a plane with no training, operating a train with no training, eating foods flooded with disease etc etc, heck we even, though the far left would disagree, want regulations that protect our water and air from pollution.
The big difference here Eugeane is that while those on the left and notice I say left as I do not consider a liberal to be a democrat, not only want to regulate the basic things that keep us safe and healthy, they want to regulate everything you do from where your water comes from and what temperature it is, to where you can and can not shop, to what you can and can not wear, to where and what you can worship. They want to be more involved in your health care then your doctor. They want to punish you for being successful which is the American dream as I understand it. The list goes on and on and on
Regulation is fine Eugeane when it is done in proportion and actually helps something. Creating regulation just for the sole purpose of being able to control something is called Tyranny. I bet you Eugeane that you are unaware of 90% of the liberties and rights you actually have as an American, I bet you are equally unaware that you give those liberties away freely and without thought
Did you know Eugeane that you do not need a drivers liscence to drive a car? I bet not
This is what happens when you form an opinion based on what other people have told you and not from doing your own calculated and indepth research. The bottom line is that there used to be 2 parties that differed on some issues but were able to work together, they were called republicans and democrats. Now you have republicans, liberals and a few democrats that live in Arkansas. The democrat party has been hijacked by a group of people who think that it is a good idea that everyone has to turn to the government when something goes wrong. These people think that food stamps are a bolster to the economy. These people think that the state of America as it stands today is GREAT!
The_AnonymusProfit 10 months, 2 weeks ago
But we know the truth Eugeane, we know that republicans dont want dirty air and dirty water, we know that republicans dont want old people eating dog food and autistic kids to go without medicine. These things that the left says are so far out that for anyone to actually believe them, I would personally question their sanity.
As to compasion for the poor. Eugeane have you ever been to any other countries? Have you ever been to say Ethiopia? Rawanda? the Congo? have you ever been to say Sri Lanka or Mongolia? How about Vietnam(non military action) or Laos. Eugeane I have compassion for the poor, I try to help the poor, but the answer for the poor is not giving them a fish, the answer is teaching them how to fish, Jesus said that the poor will always be with us, however compairing our poor people to the rest of the world is like comparing a Draft horse to a Fly. Did you know that 80% of the worlds population can not afford table salt?
Let me ask you a question Eugeane, do the majority of our poor people have access to food and shelter? Do the majority of our poor people have access to running water and clothing? Do the majority of our poor people have access to the internet?
Come on im all for helping the poor but the problem is Eugeane and you can say what you want but I call it as I see it and I see WAY TO MUCH for it to be just an isolated incident. Our poor people far from being mad about it, ENJOY being poor. They dont have to work, the government WILL provide Eugeane. And guess who pays for it? I do. You do. But not them, 50% of Americans who are of the age to work IE 18 pay 0 taxes to the federal government. 50 PERCENT. Why work when you get everything given to you?
To sum up Eugeane, the Rhetoric of the Left is meant to make you question your morals, its meant to make you question the principles which made this country what it is. But Eugeane I have news for you. If we continue to follow the policies of the Left from the local to federal level, everything that you have grown to think will always be there, Medicare, Social Security etc, will all be a distant memory.

Great response AP. It won't be long before the left leaning liberal loonies chime in with what the believe is a different, more accurate spin on the "facts" Thankfully we only have 119 more days of this mindless drivel by the current SPOTUS

Eugene: Highways = interstate commerce. Aviation regulation= interstate commerce. FDA= interstate commerce. Mining and drilling regulation= much mining and drilling done on Federal property. No compassion for the Poor???? Republicans have the guts to tell people, Social Security, broken, needs to be fixed. Medicare/Medicaid, broken, needs to be fixed. Obamacare imposing tax penalties on families, needs to be fixed.School vouchers for kids in DC to go to charter schools, nixed by Obama, first week in office. Republicans want to open up more voucher programs so other kids living in poorer communities can have a chance to go to charter schools besides the public inner school system, frowned upon by Democrats. An almost 16 Trillion dollar deficit, that will be a drag on every income level in America, and what has Obama done about it over the last 3 1/2 years, INCREASE the debt. Eugene, the only difference between a Republican and a Democrat, is we tell it like it is, not what you want to hear. Diane

Here is an example of a Republican despising the poor. You may recall that he committed more to fight AIDS in Africa than any President before or since he did it. Something like $14,000,000,000.

There's compassion for the poor-just not for the lazy.
pgericson 10 months, 2 weeks ago
@teufeldunden - just how does one decide whether a person in need is in their situation because of laziness? Being able to do so would be a great asset. We can withold unemployment compensation for those too lazy to look for work but keep it for those that are working, etc. Would you suggest government panels be established to make these calls? Just saying...
OldSpook 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Hmmm, let me see now. Cable TV, Cell phone, latest game console hooked up to the 42" flat screen color TV and been collecting government checks for over, say 2 years. This person might be lazy and not just needy. People also leave tax records when they file every year so finding a pattern would not be difficult. I would be willing to wager that an experienced social worker could seperate the goats from the sheep with little problem.

the poor? lol. I love how the so called "poor" cry poverty, yet they pay $200 cable bills, own $500 iphones, pay $400 car payments, then use a damn food stamp card at the grocery store... buying steaks and fruit loops. oh let's not forget the women at the country free clinic using medicaid while carrying expensive name brand purses. Living in Miami for the past 7 years has really opened my eyes. I was Republican before, but now I'm even more so.
MarkinMiami 10 months, 2 weeks ago
oh and let's not forget the $100 cable internet bill... but that was guaranteed in the constitution according to the libtards.

Most neo con republicans hope that business owners will respect their neighbors. Nice in theory, but the nitty gritty of the real world makes that a practice that is ignored. Reminds me of the hog farmers that cut corners and spilled toxic sludge in the 90's. They did not want to clean it up until the state forced them.
Or BP and how they wrecked the Gulf Coast. Yes BP makes commercials saying they improved things, but ask a local and you will see that they still owe money and to step up to finish cleaning up the mess.
pgericson 10 months, 2 weeks ago
All of you make good points: people should not be able to enjoy luxuries when they are on the government dole. Today we use family income / family size as the yardstick for measuring need. Are you suggesting we create a government bureaucracy to peruse purchases to ensure that 'luxuries' are not being purchased? Who gets to decide what constitutes luxury items. Sounds like a big increase in government intrusion to me. I understand the problem, but how would you realistically fix it? For example, what meats would qualify for food stamps? Do we need to make a list of acceptable bar codes to ensure that store owners cannot take food stamps in payment for 'excluded' goods? Should we replace food stamps with government-run food distribution points? How would you solve the problem of helping the needy?
OldSpook 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Actually, I like your idea of government-run food distribution points. The government would have all their records so income could be verified and of course, a social worker could always follow up with unannounced in-home inspections. If they want the handouts, then they shouldn't mind proving their need and if the government worker finds they need more, then they should get the voucher (?) immediately from the social worker. However, if the government workers finds they are cheating the system, then cut them off immediately. Maybe we need to go to the workfare system vice this silly welfare system. Teach them to fish and you'll feed them forever.
Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago
When volunteers have gone to deliver to the "needy" at Thanksgiving and Christmas, then those "poor people" with all the bells and whistles luxuries don't seem so needy anymore. In fact many of them had more than the volunteers that were delivering to the "needy."
OldSpook 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Oh and one more addition, anyone accepting government assistance must undergo drug testing. Test positive and NO SOUP FOR YOU! Try again next month.

What is even more unbelievable is that an illegal immigrant can go to Social Services and get Medicaid whereas if a person born and raised in the US, worked and paid taxes and voted and needing medical help can be denied if they make even one dollar over the limit for help. What is wrong with that picture??

BP wrecked the gulf? Please. What happened to the oil? It was consumed by marine organisms because it is a NATURAL substance. Liberals want to make life risk free and fair........it's neither and no matter how hard you try you will never make it so. You just have to have a system where everyone has an opportunity based on their choices which we now have. Liberals hate our system because there are different results. THERE ALWAYS WILL BE BECAUSE WE ARE BORN WITH DIFFERENT CAPABILITIES! Sorry........can't fix that.
DoubleHeroides 10 months, 1 week ago
Bufordsplay: I will have to disagree with your idea that the gulf wasn’t damaged due to a massive oil spill. Geese, fish, crustaceans (most animals) don’t “consume” oil. I don’t recall seeing that in the food chain for the ocean. Any micro-organism that you find on the internet that is said to "consume" oil does not exist at the volume to have "consumed" the spill. To claim that ocean life wasn’t damaged due to a massive oil spill demonstrates a massive ignorance about biology. Poison Ivy is a “natural substance” and so is arsenic but I do not recommend eating it. Your argument is invalid. Making life “risk free” isn’t possible but reducing those risks by creating performance standards reduces risk.

Is it true that you can now fry gulf shrimp in a skillet and it doesn't require adding oil?
teufelhunden 10 months, 1 week ago
Courseaire-that's what I heard! heehee
bufordsplay 10 months, 1 week ago
Do your homework DoubleHeroides. Of coarse there was initial damage due to the sheer volume of oil that leaked but the oil was consumed. After every oil spill there is eventually a boom in fishing because of this fact.
JD 10 months, 1 week ago
gulf shrimp in a skillet and it doesn't require adding oil?
Because of the toxicity of the oil most gulf shrimp are now born blind.
Buford I have traveled to the Big Easy several times to help restore the area. BP is not friendly to the local fisheries and business people. Most of the cleanup that did occur came from volunteers and not for profit companies.
But you are just an ignorant troll, educate yourself and try reading up on the legacy of BP. Try siting your sources for your "fishing boom" I would love to see it.
Courseaire 10 months, 1 week ago
Because of the toxicity of the oil most gulf shrimp are now born blind. I prefer that the shrimp not see me eat them - I'm kind of funny like that. Also, I don't like fish with their heads still on unless it's a flounder & I can turn him upside down and he I can't see me.
DoubleHeroides 10 months, 1 week ago
@Bufordsplay: I have done my research, not agreeing with you is not a sign that I have not done research. Pink Salmon are only recovered, not booming after Exxon-Valdez. Herring in the Prince William Sound is still not recovered. I have failed to find a single statistic that points to a “boom” or increase in fish populations above their pre-oil spill levels within even ten years following an oil spill. If you have information I am not privy to please share it with me. Further, I’ll reiterate that wildlife does not naturally consume oil. Fish, birds, crustaceans do not consume oil. There are specialized ecosystems around seeps (naturally occurring areas on the ocean floor where oil seeps or leaks out of the ground at negligible levels) where bacteria, plankton, and other smaller ocean dwellers consume some of the chemicals in oil however those are small in scale and do not reflect a larger ecosystem wide acceptance of oil. In fact most information I have come across states that the exposure and consumption of oil by wildlife during a spill causes lesions, ulcers and in many cases death and the lingering effects of oil in the ecosystem on eggs can result in infertility and / or genetic disorders. Again, please share any information that you may have because if I am wrong I’d like to be able to read up on it. I just haven’t found anything to confirm your statement.
DoubleHeroides 10 months, 1 week ago
Further, your claim is that after the initial shock of all the oil in the ocean the fish population increases in such a way that it would constitute a “boom” in the population meaning that oil must be good for fish reproduction. I wonder why fish farms and hatcheries don’t just put oil into tanks with their fish? (Fish oil doesn’t count).
AnimalLover 10 months, 1 week ago
BP wrecked the gulf? Please. What happened to the oil? It was consumed by marine organisms because it is a NATURAL substance.
You would have a hard time telling all the waterfowl and fish that died because of the spill, that the oil floating in the Gulf, and below the water line is a natural substance. I think you are confused between the meaning of a natural substance and an inert one. Just because something is "natural", that doesn't make it non-toxic. Go drink a nice tall glass of motor oil, and tell me how yummy and "naturally" it treats your body.
The_AnonymusProfit 10 months, 1 week ago
not sure what oil spills have to do with the letter.
