The Southern Pines police are warning local residents and businesses to be wary of counterfeit money.

In the past week, five counterfeit bills have been passed at four different businesses, police said.

These bills were in the 10 and 20 dollar denominations. Prior to July 5, additional counterfeit bills had been located that included a 5 dollar denomination

Residents and business owners are advised to carefully examine currency they come in contact with and if a suspect bill is located to contact the Southern Pines Police Department at 910-692-2731.
