Dunkin’ Donuts in Aberdeen opened its doors to the public Monday.

Located at 1798 N. Sandhills Blvd., the site of the former Blockbuster store, Dunkin’ Donuts is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A formal grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in August.

Dunkin’ Donuts offers a full menu of the brand’s classic food and beverages that features not only its signature doughnutss, but also bagels, sandwiches, freshly brewed tea and Dunkin’ Donuts’ “world-famous” coffee, a news release said.

Dunkin’ Donuts is America’s largest retailer of coffee-by-the-cup, serving nearly 1.5 billion cups of brewed coffee each year. The coffee is made from 100 percent Arabica coffee beans and has its own coffee specifications, which are recognized by the industry as a superior grade of coffee, the release said.

“We’re excited to be part of the Aberdeen and surrounding area communities, and to bring the excitement, emotions and joy of Dunkin’ Donuts,” said Ken Baer, operating partner of Pinehurst Donuts LLC, which owns and operates the local Dunkin’ Donuts. “We’re also very excited to bring new employment opportunities to the area and have hired over 50 crew, shift leaders and managers.

“We are proud to serve the families and residents of Moore County. We hope to become a popular destination and an everyday routine for guests looking for high-quality coffee, baked goods and snacks delivered fast in a friendly environment and at an affordable price.”

Pinehurst Donuts LLC also owns and operates a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise at 2628 Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

Pinehurst Donuts LLC was established in 2010 by Baer and Pat Corso, both of whom have been residents, businessmen and active in the local community for more than 25 years. Baer and Corso are former Pinehurst Resort executives, as well as partners at National Resort Management, located in the village of Pinehurst.

Founded in 1950, Dunkin’ Donuts is a market leader in the regular/decaf coffee, iced coffee, hot flavored coffee, doughnut, bagel and muffin categories, a news release said. Dunkin’ Donuts has earned the No. 1 ranking for customer loyalty in the coffee category by Brand Keys for six years running.

The company has more than 10,000 restaurants in 32 countries worldwide. In 2011, Dunkin’ Donuts’ global systemwide sales were $6.5 billion.

Fluff advertisement for Pat Corso. I thought the Pilot had an ad magazine in Pinestraw what about news?

Mozambique 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Give it a rest JD. You know, you don't have to type every little comment that your brain conjures up. Are you fifteen? I think there's enough bandwidth to handle an innocent story about a new business opening up....they do it all the time, as the local media should. Don't worry, I'm sure within a couple of hours there will be a story that will allow everyone to return to arguments about fracking, the traffic circle, healthcare and politics.

50 people employed!!! Thanks.

Mozambique, well you said your thought now go back to being a board lurker. What are you 12? Look I can do that too. Such a novel interwebs user you are now go pat yourself on the back for your one post. Yay more marginal workers in a service centered town.

Glad I could inspire you to make an account to post your white knight style justice on the Pilot.

Excited!!!! It's about time....I grew up with DD and feels good to have one here in Aberdeen......

Granny's will always be #1 with me. Remember when it was on 15-501?

Thanks to the Pilot for posting this, it's great that our area businesses are advertised and it's certainly new's worthy. And I don't know why anyone would be against Mr. Corso, he's a great guy and a good businessman....

Glad for the new option to enjoy. Also glad to see Pinehurst has relaxed about people using their name for businesses outside of the village. All the angst and name changes that kerfluffle brought.

I would have rather had a Krispy Kreme. At least you'll always be able to find a cop when you need one.

I would get my donuts from Granny's and then run over to DD for some coffee.

I just hope that Granny's will stay afloat with DD across the street.

JD, not sure how many people DD employs but this is a positive event even they only pay minimum wage. Good job for high schoolers.

2

cantstandya 10 months, 2 weeks ago

DD is a great outfit, been around for years and at many locations, only the critics of variety could come up with negative comments, people keep bringing up Granny's,great to have that loyalty but be opened minded I'm sure there will be enough business for both.

0

cantstandya 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Courseaire, At the risk of opening a can of worms, your comment is an old worn out piece of material,if you are trying to be funny research some new sources, just how many LEO's have you seen hanging out at a donut shop,I mean really get a grip.

2

cooldaddy 10 months, 2 weeks ago

There are the negative few who blog against everything. Just track them back. What you never see is a positive comment with some sort of action attached. They don't do squat, but will advise the world of what to do. If you don't like DD, then don't go in there you idiot earthworm. How hard is that? Cash only at Granny's still? Raise a red flag? It ain't gas. just charge 4 percent more for a card and keep the price down as an incentive. It is tough to order for corp. events and pay cash. Actually has made me go to Harris Teeter. I hope they start, (if not already) taking a card. Very good pastries!

I'm happy for Dunkin' Donuts, happy for the jobs they created, and happy for the choice they give to consumers. It really is that simple, folks. Cheers!

0

Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago

So, will DD be donating lots of its leftovers to local charities and food bank? (As Granny's has done for years.)

Now we have donut choices all around town. For those wanting Krispy Kreme, you can get those in Food Lion, and Wally's has its own reasonably priced that are very good,

0

cantstandya 10 months, 2 weeks ago

It's a planned political takeover by those leftist donut makers from up north,a conspiracy to run Granny's out of business and to eventually rule the world,it's a new donut shop, thats it,you would think the space shuttle landed in the middle of Sandhill Blvd. and Pat Corso was the pilot.

0

Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Yeah, the space shuttle has landed on the island of high calories, high fat and high sugar. Glazed_260 calories of which 130 are fat and 12 grams sugar. Chocolate kreme filled 370 calories , 190 are from fat and 21 grams of sugar. It says so on the Dunkin Donuts website under the specified items in the drop down menu. I guess if you're taking a break from healthy food that won't matter.

0

Thatcher 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Interesting information, but now I'm curious: what does Granny's website say about the calorie content of their own donuts?

0

cantstandya 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Well if you really are so concerned and it sounds like one is, just do not eat any donuts, pretty simple stuff, myself I like a good donut from time to time and get enough excercise to work those calories right off, depressing to have seen a comment being made that is condemning a donut shop for being the cause of obesity, that usually starts when you put more food in your mouth and your feet never hit the floor, coucharitis causes the same problem as a donut.

Political scientists all agree that using the term "mad Amerifats" makes one much more classy and persuasive. However, polls suggest that unless that person also inserts the terms "greedy" and "racist" into the slogan, approval by liberal voters drops 11%. However, this drop in liberal support can be offset by any reference to "George Bush."

0

OldSpook 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Ah, Comrade Thatcher, here in the United States of Socialist Republics (USSR) we enjoy hosting "Mad Amerifats" who became greedy under the former regime of President George Bush. In our efforts to restore sanity to this country, we have introduced Obamacare (ACA) to control the peoples weight and health regardless of sex or race. Yes comrade, your government will now take care of you from womb to tomb.

Whew, working all of that rubbish into one politically incorrect statement was tough. And just for a DD? Not worth it, I'll see y'all at The Bakehouse in Aberdeen for some good pastries. Cheers/Dave

0

DingoMike 10 months, 2 weeks ago

well it about time that another store came into the picture, Granny's has been running out of product by 9am for so long, I stopped counting the days. The business model for tyhem must be to sell just this amount of food then shut the store and go home. Where the heck is the drive for better products and bigger store or better yet more market share. I hope the competition will wake up the owners of Granny's and make them see the light of day.

Said it the last time! Grannies doesn't cater to late arisers...such as myself. I'll gladly go to DD because their hours are very convenient and their product is good. Won't hurt Grannies at all for DD to be in town now will it?? Does Hardees put McD's or Wendys out of business by opening up across the street? Nah, not lately! Get over it for Pete's sake....it's another store that has hired people and I wish them well.

Bflat: So the old Blockbuster, where the Dunkin is located, should just be left empty? This was not a case of new development at all. Your comment makes no sense in relation to this topic. If anything, we should be glad that another empty storefront has been filled with a good new dining option and 50 jobs. Now if we could get somebody to start filling up the really ugly and outdated Town and Country shopping center, it would be great. And please, please, please...no more "dollar stores" . Do we really need dozens of them around here?

Well, since you started it:

A policeman pulls a man over for speeding and asks him to get out of the car. After looking the man over he says, "Sir, I couldn't help but notice your eyes are bloodshot. Have you been drinking?" The man gets really annoyed and says, "Officer, I couldn't help but notice your eyes are glazed. Have you been eating doughnuts?"

JD - "watch out an irritable forum lurker appears. Enjoy the doughnuts big boy."

You're projecting again.

It is odd how interested you appear to be in what you described as "fluff advertisement." Perhaps you are more fond of ring-shaped pastries than you care to admit?

0

Thatcher 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Scientists believe that irritable forum lurkers often label those with whom they disagree as irritable forum lurkers. These subjects often also pepper their posts with terms like "hate," "angry," "denier," "racist," "troll," and "stupid." Scientists attempted to measure this phenomenon, but their instruments kept breaking after being called racist trolls. Obama will fix this. Cheers!

TooHot,"Theres this thing called a period" Could not tell you, never had one.

0

Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago

@science_it meant bring in everything and everybody and fill up every sq.in, in the same context of more dollar stores you say we don't need. How many donut shops is this area capable of supporting? How many "dollar stores" is the area going to support?

0

Thatcher 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Great question, bflat : "How many donut shops is this area capable of supporting?" I would like to hear the answer from all here who have said negative things about Dunkin' Donuts. Tell us...what does your feasibility study show? And your market research consisted of what? Look, you can still love Granny's, and you can still buy Granny's stuff. But stop with the red herring questions like the last two you posed. We get it. You don't like Dunkin' Donuts. But stop hiding your real motivation behind questions involving square footage and how many donut shops can we really support. What's next-- "How much water will Dunkin' Donuts use?!" Here's a guess: less than Blockbusters and Ragazzi's combined. To me, folks should welcome new businesses, not try to find ways to denigrate them. Cheers!

0

Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago

You miss the entire point which has not one thing to do with Granny's, DD, DG or what any of those stand for. Where did I ever say I didn't like DD? I didn't. The fact is that we are in a serious downturn of the economy and it is going to get worse. Keep bringing in more and more stores of every kind, develop to the ultimate of every sq. in. and eventually there is too much of everything. There is the law of supply and demand as well as the effect of the economy. Feasibility studies are only good for the moment and can only speculate about the future. Places will start closing up and there will be a lot more empty stores, but people around here apparently don't think it can happen.

0

Courseaire 10 months, 2 weeks ago

When we finally run out of dough is when there will be no more room for another donut shop. Right now, there aren't enough donuts. Does anyone know what happens to the holes? Doh!

0

cooldaddy 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Yes, Courseaire, I have located the holes. There are 2 or three bloggers on the Pilot website who oppose everything. Their validity as a source of info is null. The holes are straight through their numb heads, where the brains would normally be. Let the free market run itself. Instead of crying, these donut holes should be happy that Granny's will step it up a notch. Competition....wonderful thing.

0

Bflat 10 months, 1 week ago

There are those that choose to deny facts and that is your choice.

0

Arestorer 10 months, 1 week ago

Bflat; I also think people dont understand market saturation.....You can only have so many of one thing, before they start hurting each other...The big problem with this is,the small buisnesses dont have the capital to hold on during tough times..Unlike chain stores that can draw funds from better market areas, while they wait for the small-guy to close up.. Im glad for the local jobs, but they may be offset by job losses elsewhere...(Mom&Pop)'s

Cooldaddy who hides behind a blank avatar and has participated in very few discussion boards all of a sudden begins speaking for the silent majority! Who appointed you spokesperson for those who write on these boards? Last count I had over 108 posts and before that over 25 Letters to the Editor?

Never heard of Cooldaddy ~ whoever you are ~ hiding behind a moniker representing someone with images of self unbeknownst but to you.

This is the second board you have taken an opportunity to enhance your non-existent position speaking for others who voice opinions. BYW: The Constitution of the United States gives all the right to express themselves, but not a right to allege to speak for a majority.

Where have you been given privilege to speak to others saying. "no one pays any attention to them"? You Sir are way out of your comfort zone with that self-crowning egocentricity!

Big news about DD opening, is a soft story in form of an "ad." all about how many cups of coffee sold, hours open, products and services, in 32 countries, global, ya da ya da. This was likely a "Press Release" submitted by the local franchisee to get free advertising about its opening.

0

Toda 10 months, 1 week ago

I think Bfalt that was what another thread alluded to was the soft ads in Pinestraw.

Big chains are slowly but surely forcing small mom and pop businesses out of business. When Kmart first came to our area, one small business owner shared with me that they [KMart] could sell their bicycles less expensive than they could buy them from a supplier.

I don't eat sugar enriched snacks, but it seems to me Grannies has been around a long time. They started at the now Sonic site and moved to their current location. Another small business will be remembered in the history of French Fry Alley [Sandhills Blvd].
