So This Is Our 'No New Taxes'?

With Obamacare now the new health care law of the land, here are just a few of President Obama’s “no new taxes” that either have been implemented or are about to be implemented to help pay for this debacle:

  1. Black liquor tax

  2. Tax on innovator drug companies

  3. Indoor tanning tax

  4. Medicine cabinet tax (special taxes on bandages, hearing aids, etc.)

  5. Individual mandate tax (pay the penalty tax or you could go to jail). By the way, Nancy Pelosi is all for someone going to jail if they don’t pay the penalty.

  6. Tax on health insurers

  7. Excise tax on Cadillac health plans

  8. Special needs kids tax (a travesty for families and parents who have special needs kids)

  9. Raise in medical itemized deductions (senior citizens and the chronically ill will be particularly hit hard on this in 2016)

  10. Surtax on investment income

  11. Blue Cross/ Blue Shield tax hike

Please feel free to read online all these “no new taxes” President Obama told us would never happen on his watch, and ask yourself if you feel comfortable knowing he will keep his pledge another four years of “no new taxes.”

When did Obama say "No new taxes?"

And if the penalty's a tax, then her new hero Mitt Romney's a big ol' tax raiser, too.

And in case you're not keeping up, Diane's the one that just got caught lying again in the health care thread. And it's not the first time. So readers should look at everything she says with extreme skepticism.

Good times, good times.

Well Diane the money has to come from somewhere.

0

RmeMP 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Actually dusty, you must be a smart man, being that you're a lawyer and all, surely you know how to Google "did Obama say no new taxes".

You will see that Diane is not lying here; not only did he say it, but he said it over and over again while on the campaign trail.

0

dustyrhoades 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Nope. And "you can Google it yourself" is a weak and pathetic excuse for an argument by someone who's too lazy to back their statements up.

0

smoochielarue 10 months, 2 weeks ago

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know he was referring to federal income tax.

0

RmeMP 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Why should I waste time linking dozens of links for you dusty? It wasn't a weak response, it was a fast one. Just like this is. He did say it. Multiple times. Multiple links will take you to his exact quotes.

I guess you're the one lying now huh?

0

Arestorer 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Obama, did say it.....But I can only find where he said it once....

0

RmeMP 10 months, 2 weeks ago

"Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 will see ANY tax increase of ANY kind...". That's a quote from Barry himself.

Dusty - liar.

Stop digging your hole dusty, isn't that what you told Diane?

0

Arestorer 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Rme; That was only once, not over and over again....But, He did say it...I believe that lie has been told by-a-many politicians...Remember,"Read my lips" ??

0

dustyrhoades 10 months, 2 weeks ago

REMF: But he did say he'd raise taxes on the wealthy, didn't he? That's not "no new taxes."

And Arestorer: remember "I didn't raise taxes in Massachusetts?"

Restored, thanks for proving that dusty lied.

Since he likes to call people out, I thought he would enjoy being taken to task as well :)

Tell you what though, since I'm getting bored with poking you with that stick to make you scream like an enraged monkey, and since your favorite retort seems to be one tiresome variation after another of "I know you are, but what am I?" I won't call you REMF any more. I'll just call you Pee Wee.

We don't even really know if Pee Wee is ex-military. That's the problem with hiding behind an alias. For all we know he's a socially maladjusted 12 year old pretending to be ex-military. His bluster and lack of debating skills would tend to support this theory.

what is a 'black liquor tax.' Is it just for anejo rum?

0

RmeMP 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Focus dusty, focus - you're getting off topic again while trying to be cute with worthless insults.

What we were discussing is the fact that your boy Oblunder lied to everyone, again, when he said he wouldnt raise taxes on any family making less than 250k per year. Diane is pointing out this fact that, and you called her a liar for it in the very first comment. I simply pointed out the fact, the she was actually telling the truth, and it was YOU who were lying. But of course, instead of admitting that you were wrong, you had to go with the typical crybaby left responses of name calling.

Ps - I have offered to meet you face to face and even buy you a beer; funny that you never showed up. Why not, if you think I'm a 12 year old non vet? Or peewee, or a dog?

Whether he raised taxes or not what upsets me about Obamacare is how they underestimated its cost by at least 85 percent, how health insurance premiums significantly increased as a result of the act and lets not forget all the broken promises we were given to get the crazy thing passed.

MikeNC 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Smooch: he only meant income tax? What do you think all the uproar for the past week as a result of the Supreme court ruling, was about? 40,000 plus new I R S agents combing thru your income tax and checking to see if you have health insurance. If you do not have health insurance, you are penalized with a tax. Diane

CBO Says that 75% of TAXES in Obamacare will be paid by those making less than 125,000 a year. Couple that with The Bush taxe cuts running out at the beginning of 2013..........Obama is a Liar and a thief.

0

The_AnonymusProfit 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Obamacare requires all americans to pay 12 dollars per year to support government funded abortions.

0

Thatcher 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Seems to me that before we debate whether it is a tax, we should start by knowing that Obama/Pelosi/Reid originally gave information about the "cost" of Obamacare to the CBO, who scored that info as costing $940 billion (they were trying to keep it under 1 trillion). CBO nows says that it will cost virtually double that amount: $1.76 trillion. http://washingtonexaminer.com/article/1175831; http://news.yahoo.com/cbo-obamacare-price-tag-shifts-940-billion-1-163500655.html. Now, the Supreme Court has ruled that the mandate is a tax. And who pays that tax? http://www.aei-ideas.org/2012/06/the-obamacare-tax-in-one-easy-chart/; http://www.realclearpolitics.com/2012/07/01/so_just_who_will_pay_the_obamacare_uninsured_tax_283724.html. Mostly, the middle class, and certainly those making less than $250,000 a year. Hope that helps. Cheers!

0

MikeNC 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Thatcher: In the CBO scoring, the "doc fix" was ALSO not factored in. Diane

0

Thatcher 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Diane-- You are correct. I've noticed some folks here have accused Romney of "flip-flopping" over whether a mandate (in his state) is a tax like the Obamacare tax. It was Obama himself who, way before the court arguments, insisted that his mandate was not a tax. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdgPau.... He then authorized his solicitor general to defend the mandate in court as part of the federal government's taxing powers. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/304896/re-solicitor-general-called-mandate-tax-avik-roy. Ultimately, the SCT ruled that Obamacare is only constitutional because it is a tax. Yet, Obama now says the mandate is not a tax. http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/jul/5/obama-camp-mandate-penalty-not-tax/. If one believes that Romney has flip-flopped on the issue, then they must admit that Obama has done a triple-axel. And with that triple-axel and the CBO report doubling the cost of Obamacare, taxpayers will soon be feeling like Nancy Kerrigan being whacked by Tonya Harding. Cheers!

Toda 10 months, 2 weeks ago

The fact is that not too many Americans can not afford rising costs of health care premiums. An interesting paper on the "Effect of Rising Health Insurance" gives rise to reductions in direct salary standardization as opposed to opting out of personal health coverage for most is totally affordability.

Those in the military or retired continue to have affordable health care at the governments expense. Those who are 65 have government Medicaid. So what's the problem with the rest of Americans who can't afford those ridiculously high insurance premiums receiving compatible health care coverage? From the National Bureau of Economic Research and here's your link: Just click just that easy

"Economic theory suggests that if workers fully value their health insurance benefits, they will bear the burden of higher premiums in the form of lower wages, with no change in the level of employment or total wage and benefit costs to employers. But if firms are limited in their ability to offset higher benefit costs through lower wages - for example, by minimum wage laws or union contracts - then rising premiums may cause employers to reduce their work force or shift employment to employees who do not receive benefits, such as part-time workers."

That's not POTUS'O fault! Just do some fact checking before making insidious remarks like Diane. What the hell is a "black liquor tax"? That remark is just plain dumb!

Toda why is health care so expensive? we as americans demand the best of everything, yet we have higher mortality rates then say cuba? Specialization has driven the cost of health care up, we have less doctors now then ever. There is no such thing anymore as a GP.

ACA does nothing to address this fundamental issue. If we have more GPS the cost of health care would go down as well as insurance premiums.

That is just plain hard fact. Over 50% of what we go to the specialists for can be treated by a GP for half the cost.

0

lakeview 10 months, 2 weeks ago

I'm not disagreeing TAP but will add that doctors I have discussed the healthcare issue are still concerned simply about the high cost of business specifically because of ambulance chasers looking to sue physicians/surgeons at every turn so their insurance is way to costly.

The_AnonymusProfit 58 minutes ago I have your answere, the AMA actively regulates the number of medical student slots available so as to artificialy maintain the demand for MD's, Current Median starting income for Physicians with 6 years experiance ranges from $190K (allergy) to $625K ( orthopedic surgeon ) these are obscene as median starting incomes and are the crux of the health care affordability issue and it all goes back to the AMA deliberately restricting the number of medical students. The villians aren't the health insuance Co.s but the Doctors who started them and yes the health insurance gambit was started by Doctors. Why do you think your insurance Co doesn't care it's being charged $18 per aspirin?

Tap and Bpan: tax increase on the black liquor, in Obamacare will be 23 BILLION dollars. This bio fuel is used to generate electricity for papermaking companies. I'm sure this won't be passed onto the consumer, huh? Plus this one will really help the self employed. They will have now pay 3.8% toward medicare, double what they are now. Also double the tax rate income over $200,000 pays into Medicare. Obamacare wants to generate almost $86 Billion dollars from this. And another great tax, is the codification economic substance doctrine. This gives the IRS the right to refuse legal tax deductions, if they deem it lacks substance.Obamacare wants to generate $5Billion in taxes, on this one. Diane

0

Bflat 10 months, 2 weeks ago

My insurance costs more than a house or car payment because the premiums keep going up. There ought to be something for me like a discount because I don't get sick. I read the report on what will be charged if a person doesn't have insurance. It is about $695 and perhaps a penalty. The IRS will be checking to see if health insurance is reported, and low income people that can't afford insurance don't have to pay it. Already , ...there is the problem.

MikeNC 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Bflat, this presidential election will be the most important one, for years to come. We need to find address real solutions to the cost of healthcare, but Obamacare, ain't the answer. Diane

@ willbuck

your logic is horrendous this country pays over 1 trillion in taxes every year. its not time for new taxes its time to stop spending.

0

FightFireWithFire 10 months, 2 weeks ago

The problem I have with all of this is simple. If you look at it from the perspective of the caregivers, you will see. People are not going to take care of themselves. People who continue to not take care of themselves frequently use the ambulance (emergency) and emergency room systems as a doctor's office. Don't believe me? Join up with your local volunteer fire department, talk to some of the EMS folks. Frivolous lawsuits and "disability" claims are also at fault. People who are lazy and inept aren't necessarily stupid, they are smart enough to figure out ways to get what they want without working for it. Health care costs are getting worse because people are abusing the system. Stop the abuse, lower the cost.

0

The_AnonymusProfit 10 months, 2 weeks ago

FFWF this is true, but again the biggest drain on us is specialization and lack of GP's and GS's

Yes willbuck you figured it out.

0

blake 10 months, 2 weeks ago

@TAP There is a shortage of doctors. Specialization is not necessarily the problem. In fact, it leads to amazing innovation and allows us to do quite amazing things in medicine. Bentpan was wrong regarding the AMA actively regulating the number of medical student spots. It did lobby against this in the past when they thought there was an abundance of doctors. They have reversed that stance and recognize a physician shortage.
The real bottleneck in new physicians is in residency spots--which is funded from Medicare. It will cost money to train more and this has not been a priority of either party.
FFWF was onto something with his statement of people not taking care of himself.
The biggest costs of healthcare are not the doctor's cost but the sickness.
We are an aging, obese (an getting larger), sedentary population who still likes to smoke, eat poorly, and drink too much.

Blake and that goes to my earlier statment of most of our issues can be solved by gp,s over 50%yourself of ohr sicknesses are caused by simple bad nutrition lack of exercise etc. All this can be solved better by a family doctor saying get up off your ass then having to see a blood specialist. A heart specialist. A nutritionist etc etc. But since there are a lack of gps and poor people using the emergency room as a doctors office we get this mess. Anx i had a more in depth answer but im in a church parking lot on a cell phone.

Where did Diane come up with a black liquor tax proposal? Everything is taxed!

All taxation didn't come to fruition on Obama's watch. It's about robbing Social Security, draining our national treasure to pay to fight wars in other parts of the world. It seems everyone has forgotten about the $500.00 hammers and $3,000.00 toilets seats et al. NASA pinched off a large public debt for decades to come. Why did we ever need a moon rover? To do what?

My son works for one of our states largest hospitals as an analyst with 42 staff who do nothing but design logarithmic formulas to determine costs and expenses for every aspect of provider care. His team also contracts with other hospitals and medical groups to produce reports on anticipated cost of hiring or building any addition to a current or projected health care facility. He has provided Power Point presentations at major universities for health care professionals and economists on the cost of direct health care services. The costs begin in the parking lot ....?

There is more to Affordable Health Care than anyone can imagine. Billions could be saved if only the Government would provide adequate funding for investigating Medicaid and Medicare abuse.

Well here is a free market rebuttal to the government taking over medical costs and controlling it: Open up the avenues to allow people to shop acros state lines for medical insurance. Would it then not create "sufficient" competition and the end result: lower insurance cost, without government interfering with any free market industry? Diane

0

Toda 10 months, 1 week ago

" Open up the avenues to allow people to shop acros state lines for medical insurance."

Do you really think that would make a difference with regard to reducing insurance premium cost when Representatives are indentured servants? Should the insurance company not pay for care, unless another state has reciprocity, it would cost a small fortune to settle a claim.

Remember, insurance companies are in the business to make money for there generous bonuses for management and stockholders. Not to pay claims.

When our Representatives begin representing our interests as opposed to their own fat wallets, we have to think in terms of a President who will suggest legislation to help most Americans. Not just those who have wealth....

0

SH59 10 months, 1 week ago

Diane, free market would be great but it's not available nor has it ever been. If there were choices that weren't controlled we would all be in a better situation. I pay $600 a month as a self employed business person. I am healthy and have not history of illness in my family but I am paying for every other person who goes to the emergency room because they waited too long for a preventable illness that has grown into an emergency. If everyone pays insurance and goes to the doctor for regular check-ups then so many unnecessary emergencies will be avoided. Massachusetts has an insurance program just like Obamacare (as you know Romney created) and the health of the state has improved and health care costs have decreased. It makes sense and is the right thing to do for this country. We already have evidence that it works so why is it so bad?

0

"When I say price controls, I mean price controls relative to production and overhead costs." No. You mean the federal government imposing price controls. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Production and overhead costs change weekly (even daily) within heath care businesses (as well as any other business). And you want the federal government to calculate (for each business) these changes weekly how? And to impose their "controls" how? To me, you should stick to using foul and vile language, instead of pretending to know something about economics.

0

Thatcher 10 months, 1 week ago

But in fairness to you, we could create new federal bureaucracies to monitor each business on a weekly basis, so as to impose the "price control." This would be free, of course, because they work for the government.

MikeNC 10 months, 1 week ago

Hey there, smoochielarue, Jim Heim, or what ever. While my party affiliation is public info, you are not allowed to know how I have voted. AS for SH59: you mentioned you are self employed. Well welcome to higher taxes: as any self employed person will be going from a 1.45% taxes into Medicare to 2.98%, while the rest of us don't have to pay that additional tax, unless we make $200,00 or more. Also: since you indicated you are healthy and take care of yourself: The Republicans want to have a tiered Medicare program, tailored to suit your life style. In other words, one Medicare program offered by the Republicans, may fit your needs at a lower cost because you are healthy. And also, read up on the MA healthcare program. While it's been proven to have more people covered, it is UNKNOWN if this program could be implemented into a Federal program and be successful.Diane

0

Thatcher 10 months, 1 week ago

smoochielarue-- See? He can't help himself. First, the vile language. Then, not knowing what quarterly and annually actually mean for a business, let alone for a federal government trying to impose price controls on that basis. Sad.

Thatcher 10 months, 1 week ago

WFBuckley-- "And...I'm done." No. Please say hello to justiceforall and Reggie for us. And make sure the Democratic Chairman knows you are no longer available. Heck, this discussion could probably take place in a single closet.

0

Thatcher 10 months, 1 week ago

WFBuckley-- You have violated The Pilot's rules by repeatedly posting vile language. You've violated the laws of common sense by posting economic theory which defies common sense. Then you attempt to end it all by saying you "...don't associate with liberals, only communists," when you appear helpless to tell us the difference between the two. Best of luck to you.

0

There are many liberal posters here who have more class and manners than the guy who just left. You guys are far more intelligent and nice guys/gals. I miss talking with you. Cheers!

0

And before I go to bed, let me say this: I understand the liberal bomb-throwers on here. Most of them fire away, and are gone within a week. They simply have no idea what they are talking about, which WFBuckley (to his credit) admitted (2 hours, 3 min. ago) about economics. Having a conversation here without use of the "f" word would be a nice change of pace. Hope this can advance our discussion. Cheers!
