Outside Threat

Referring to Joyce Reehling’s Column “Take Back Our Country From Whom?” (Jan. 20), I just want to add that this country is in dire trouble.
In all my 83 years, I have never seen us so threatened from outsiders. I’m aware that there have been many years of struggle from within, and we have come through them better off. Now we are facing enemies who want to transform our country.
We have been slowly slipping down a dangerous slope, and I really am concerned about our children and grandchildren. Will they be living in third-world style?
Hopefully we can fight back the threat from outside (and inside) our borders and become a model of a “democratic republic” for the world.

Illegals by the millions that have crossed our southern border. Now that doesn't include the Islamic terrorist that Obama has opened our borders for. Oh I know that all Islamics are not terrorist, just those that sneak in to our country with evil intent.
Of course the fact that Obama wants to give all those illegals the right to vote for him doesn't help either. They will be expecting to get money for doing nothing, you know, ride the wellfair system, destroy our social security system by drawing money they never paid in.

Nobody's fearful in how you describe it DR...just factual information that our borders have been porous forever and need to be tightened up, especially after 9/11. Also factual that OTM's are freely entering our country. Before 9/11 much of the border crossings were considered to be mostly non consequential to American security; not so much any longer. Being vigilant and realistic (Not Fearful) are in order today, but seems our country's leaders from both sides do not want order in this area. Why?? Also factual that our generation is handing a huge and mostly unnecessary debt over to our kids and grandkids. I would say that Emily Kent has a good internal data base with 83 years experience to draw her knowledge from and share it with others. My parents always instructed me to listen to what adults have to say about anything and everything. This is just such a time, but fools brush such wisdom to the curb....Mike

I agree with DR that's it's fear that motivates an unwillingness to look at the situation with anything but a slam the door attitude. I can't imagine the level of despair a person must have to decide to leave their homes and families and illegally enter into another country to find a job so their families can have food on their table. No one would do that if they didn't have to, so why can't we find a way to allow illegals here legally so they can receive a legitimate pay check, pay their taxes, get a drivers license and function without fear of deportation? The all or nothing attitude gets us nowhere and just leaves the situation where it is with everyone bitching.

Dusty and Harley...You both speak here from a position of ignorance! If you will ask any of many of the first responders here in Moore County, you'll find that a large percentage of us have been to one or both of the Homeland Security week long classes in New Mexico. If you bother to ask you will find that the position of Homeland security ( not Obama's position by any means ) is that as much as ten percent of the millions of "persons" coming across both borders are considered to not have the best interests of the U.S. in mind. You'll find that Homeland Security says that we know that they are here, we know that they have access to weapons and explosives, we simply don't know why they have waited to start causing mischief. There have already been isolated incidents, most of which have been well publicized. Dusty, you seem to try to research these things more than harley, who merely calls names and spouts hatred. Therefore I'll challenge you to find out for yourself.

Fear is the driving force here. Be afraid of everyone. We don't know what their intentions might be. Everyone should carry a weapon to protect themselves. Be suspicious of everyone, especially anyone who looks different from you. Everyone is trying to take away everything you have. Be afraid. Be very afraid. The only ones you can trust are the ones that tell you to be afraid. Would you like to play a game of cards? Here is the Queen of Diamonds. Go to the voting booth. Pull the lever for................ SH59 18 minutes ago ... I can't imagine the level of despair........
I cannot imagine why Mexico's President Felipe Calderón or his predecessors have not made Mexico a place where her citizens do not want or need to leave their homes and families. A place where jobs and prosperity abound in their own country. He slams America every chance he gets, sometimes applauded by our own congress. What's he doing to make his country a prosperous place for his people. The border states here in America prosper but desolation and chaos is the order of the day across the river. Why is that? Why has that not changed?
We have an immigration process that allows and welcomes most everyone to our great country..."so why can't we find a way to allow illegals here legally so they can receive a legitimate pay check, pay their taxes, get a drivers license and function without fear of deportation?" .....Why should we have to at the expense of all Americans; both natural and legal immigrants? Let them stand in line with the rest and we will welcome them with open arms as we always have... Mike

Here is a news flash for you sir. as much as 10% of Americans don't have the best interest of the country in mind. And they have been here from the start. I think we have recently determined that , in order to face our fears, it is OK to "shoot first and ask questions later". This is now the approved method of handling anyone who may be thinking of "causing mischief". Why take any chances, we have no way of knowing what their intent might be. Act out of fear, it's the thing to do.
teufelhunden 4 months ago
JER-I agree that there are plenty of citizen criminals causing mischief and breaking laws against their own country and fellow citizens. So look at it from that perspective. The mere act of sneaking in this country is a crime (and they are well aware of that fact regardless of what language they speak). Then, many commit more crimes in our land and against our citizens. Many have very adamantly stated where their allegiance lies ...and it is not with us. That's the point. I will ask you...can illegal immigration be a national security issue? The answer is YES, it can.

Thankfully Alaska has laws that protect law abiding citizens in situations where they stop a crime that is being committed against one of our populace. I do not blame illegals for coming to this country...I blame our govt for not stopping them!! If we bring our troops home from overseas, and place them along our borders and use deadly force to stop the invasion of ANY illegals, that would stop immediately. You do not see N. Koreans crossing their border with the South. South Korea is a mecca of wealth compared to the north and the folks in the north are starving to death. Even with that situation, they do not cross to the south. Wonder why? I think I know why, the ROK soldiers would shoot them dead. It sure works there.

Yukon, yes, that and the fact that it is the most mined area in the world if I'm not mistaken. The Yalu river on the border with China is much more easily crossed (forded in some places), and border guards, unlike mines, can be bribed. Plus, the NK guards on the DMZ would shoot them before they could get close to the southern side of the DMZ anyway.

I do believe that it is the North Koreans that shot their citizens who are fleeing to the south. Kind of like when the East Berlin cops and military shot the citizens escaping to the west.
It would be no problem in closing the borders, that is what the US military is for, to protect and defend the country against all enemy's, both foreign and DOMESTIC. We should open all the south bound lanes and close the north bound.

Explain to me why we should open our borders so people from another country can have jobs here when America has a REAL unemployment rate of over 14% ? How do you explain the President of Mexico berating our country when in Mexico immigrants (legal or otherwise) can not hold jobs. If you do you go to prison. Foreigners that work for countries from around the world have to go through processing and having to bribe people just to work for the company that sent them there. If you are caught coming in illegally, you are immediately deported or imprisoned.

You know, I wouldn't want to live in Mexico either. Thousands of people killed weekly. Drug gangs running large parts of the country. Military and police killing drug gang members and drug gang members killing cops and military and their families. Did you ever wonder when you say a news video from there why the police and military wear mask? It's so they can't be identified and have their families murdered. So why isn't the government of Mexico making it a better place to live? Why aren't the people doing something to make it a better country? Americans worked hard to make this a better country for themselves and their children, not for others to come here and demand free health care, schools, houses and a living. Then instead of becoming Americans like millions of other that came here from Europe and Asia, they demand that we allow them to continue with the ways of their country. The country they ran away from. The country that treats them far worse then we do. They want to wave their flag and not follow our laws or customs. They want it their way or no way.

SH59, come on, you know the answer for that. Because employers can get the job done for below minimum wage, or at basic minimum wage, is why. They do not need to give ANY benefits to an illegal, and they will gladly work anyway. Have you ever heard the saying "you get what you pay for"? I wish employers would get what they pay for....and as an added bonus, 10 yrs in prison, maybe that would cut down on some of this.

NATIONAL BRIEFING | MIDWEST; Iowa: Testimony In Slaughterhouse Case By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: October 30, 2009
A former slaughterhouse supervisor testified that the plant scrambled to get workers new identification documents the night before a huge immigration raid. The man, Carlos Guerrero-Espinoza, said managers at the slaughterhouse, Agriprocessors Inc. in Postville, provided permanent-resident cards to 20 employees and had them fill out new applications the night before the May 2008 raid at the plant, where nearly 400 workers were arrested. Mr. Guerrero-Espinoza said the cards were fraudulent and manufactured in Minneapolis a week before the raid. His testimony came in the third week of the trial of the plant's former manager, Sholom Rubashkin, on 91 charges of financial fraud. Mr. Rubashkin is being tried in Sioux Falls, S.D. because of pretrial publicity. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B05EED91E3BF933A05753C1A96F9C8B63&ref=agriprocessorsinc
Illegal Immigration is a Burden on the Taxpayer
The costs of illegal immigration to the taxpayer are numerous, but the largest costs are education of their children, emergency medical care and incarceration for those arrested for crimes. Despite being ineligible, some illegal aliens also get welfare the same way they get jobs: with identity documents falsely identifying them as U.S. citizens. In addition, if they have U.S.-born children, they may collect welfare assistance in the name of those children. The annual net cost of illegal immigrants (after subtracting their tax payments) to the American taxpayer is likely to be more than $45 billion. Our recent study of the net fiscal “Costs of illegal immigration to Californians” estimated the partial costs at $10.5 billion in that state alone.

Yukonjohn: When small (or large) business owners employ illegals, there are three groups doing something wrong, the illegals, the business owners and the government (for not keeping the illegals out in the first place). The folks on the right keep leaving out the business owners from the blame game. These are the same business owners who the right says are the key to our recovery. You know, just get rid of the taxes and the red tape and watch how things will get better. If their hiring of illegals is any indication, lowering taxes and removing the safeguards will definitely improve their bottom lines.

I do realize how bad the problem is in central NC. I am astrounded every time I have visited in the last few years. I honestly do feel though, if you hire someone illegal, doesn't matter if they are Mexican or Martian if they are illegal, that employer should be put in prison for a long time for aiding and abetting an invader to our country!!! There would be NO exceptions. Well, l do realize sometimes you hire a company to cut your grass, and it is hard to say if a person is legal or not. That employer runs a risk though if I ran things or going up the river for a long, long time.

JER, we can agree that it is business owners that keep hiring illegals that are part of the problem. Just like I guess that we can agree that drug users in America are partly to blame for the murders of men, women and children in Mexico at the hands of drug gangs. If this counrties drug users didn't to get all doped up so much, there would not be such a large drug market. So next time youlight up a joint, or shot up, think about the dead people you helped murder!
I'd like to see the government raid every business and charge them $100,000 per illegal immigrant. That right there would solve lots of problems. No jobs in America? Go the hell back home! BUT, we know it will not happen because the political parties owe the business owners.

Now I have a real question for anyone on here that has been in the military, has family or friends in the military.
The Obama administration has declared that the murders of all those soldiers at Ft Hood by an Islamic terrorist were not casualties of war. They were the victums of "WORK PLACE VIOLENCE". The purple heart medals awarded to the families have been taken back. The insurance for combat death has been changed and the families have lost benefits that go to families of killed in action military members.
When the TWC were struck as well as the Pentagon, military members that died were awarded Purple Hearts. Their families received benefits accordingly.
Do we now go back and say that Timothy McVey was a "work place" accident in Oklahoma?
That idiot in Washington does not want to "offend the terrorist". We are at war and have been for years before 9/11. It was declared a Jihad by the Islamic leaders, a "Holy WAR". So for the administration to say that it isn't just proves why they must be thrown out in 2012.

A number of reasons for the use of such a web site. First it shows that criminals have backing of the Communist party in this country. The article shows that the company, Smithfield made a mistake by hiring illegal criminals and when they tried to set it straight, the illegals tried to shut the company down. That is reason enough to use the article because it shows the liberal side of the issue on protecting illegals.
"The workers who will be fired will be primarily those who walked out in protest last November after 75 immigrant workers were fired for allegedly having invalid social security numbers." Having invalid social security numbers means some one used identity theft. That is a crime.... You notice I didn't use the alledged part.

Dusty, I was at the legislature this week when a busload of Spanish speaking people escorted by church people of some kind came to oppose any changes in the tax or welfare laws in NC. My Spanish has gone downhill a lot, but the guy next to me was talking about Christopher Columus and the Indians of America. The point seemed to be that the Europeans took over this land illegally, and they can do the same. (Like I say, I don't do well when natives speak at 100 mph.)
Some of these admitted in the halls of the legislature that they are "undocumented." The NC Dept. of Revenue gets many documents with false social security numbers, and the man says that their statutes do not require any action. When they contact and illegal about paying any tax, they change Social Security numbers, names and locations.
But those "un-documenteds"are not the "enemy within." The OTM terrorists will prove to be a problem on a large scale if and when the "silent" takeover by the Marxist element fails. So far, no problem, as the Manchurian is doing his job, but if he loses the next election, all bets are off.
The huge Anti-American sentiment in America will be the downfall of the country if they continue to grow and prosper as they have since President Wilson's opening slavos on the Constitution.
God will not bring fire and brimstone on any of these people until they come to the judgement bar. But he will not continue to feed them and furnish I-Phones in the lavish American fashion. We will see hard times, just as in the thousands of years of Old Testament history when the Israelites did in their rebellions.

Q. Do we have illegal immigrants in the United States of America? A. Yes
Q. Is there a legal way for immigrants to enter the United States of America? A. Yes
Q. Should people in the United States of America that are here illegally be allowed to stay? A. No
Q. Our our boarders secure enough to prevent illegal immigration? A. No
Q. Have we ever been the victim of terrorist attacks on our home soil? A. Yes
Solution. A full move to secure our boarders using all means nessicary, a reopening of immigration centers and creation of new immigration centers in Texas, Florida, Arizona, and California. A rewritting of immigration laws that is simple, consisce, and easily implemented. And now the one that irritates people. Deportation.
Now that wasnt hard was it?

wdd101st: So that message you quoted was found on a military message board, was it. Members of the military may need to take a look at the organizational structure of the business they chose as their employer. In any business environment, trashing the company and its leadership will get you fired. Any employee of the US government that is unhappy with their working conditions and unwilling to follow the policies and procedures of their job should resign. It is time that we start holding people accountable for their actions. Some of you are under the impression that anything done by our military is acceptable because you think they are on a mission from god (hey, that would make them jihadist, wouldn't it? Or is it only the people that don't like us that are jihadists?). The country I love doesn't piss on their enemy. The country I love doesn't shoot now and ask questions later. The country I love doesn't make excuses for inexcusable atrocities. We are better than that, something that you and members of our military better soon realize.

The AP: A simple question for you: How did the folks who flew the hijacked airplanes into the buildings get into this country? Does your "solution" address that?

<p>TeaParty.org says: "...The Founders of the movement were the brave souls of the men and women in 1773....they posses a strong Judeo-Christian set of values, embedded in our great founding documents." They also believe that the Constitution is inherently CONSERVATIVE. Oh, DUH. Let's see, Amendments to the Constitution (usually sought by liberal/lefties) were needed to FREE the Slaves, give Women the Rights to Vote, Give Minorities long overdue Civil Rights, allow 18 yr olds to Vote, etc. Seems those "CONSERVATIVE VALUES" tended to be racist and sexist and had to be challenged to Right the Wrongs. Will all of you TEAPOTTER guys please go back to school? Where were you when G. Bush spent ALL of the taxpayers $$$$$ on wars, drug benefits, bailouts and stimulis? If you waited until 2009 after the Election of Barack Obama then you are Racists, pure and simple.Stop denying it. Only those (such as myself) who were outraged at the incompetence and gross negligence of said Past President (I wrote to my Congessmen, Governor and Senators about his wayward ways) are honestly allowed to be looked upon as being truly concerned for our nation without bringing about racial overtones. If you weren't so outraged by the actions of George Bush and then asked elected officilas to do something about him (I wanted him Impeached) then your outcries are illegitimate.SH59 3 months, 4 weeks ago
MikeNC: I agree with you that Mexico doesn't do anything to create a country where people can support themselves and I don't know the answer other than the US and Mexico need to start to work together to solve some of these problems. I don't think putting up a "wall of China" between the two countries is the answer.

Guess no one's going to answer my question. Again. All you want to do is rail against "illegals." As a comment I read elsewhere put it: Republicans don’t worry about alienating Latinos because in their eyes every Latino is already an alien.
Good luck with that.

Read it and weep, haters:
http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/99862/hispanic-vote-obama-2012-election
While Hispanics may not be completely delighted with Obama’s performance, though, they find him strongly preferable to his prospective GOP opponents. Recent data suggest that, despite all these factors, Hispanic support for Obama in 2012 may well replicate—or even exceed—the wide margin he received from these voters in 2008 (67-31). In a major survey by the Pew Hispanic Center—the gold standard for polling on Hispanics—Obama defeats Romney by 45 points (68-23), a margin 9 points greater than in 2008 (his margin is a little larger against other Republicans). The survey also finds the Democrats’ party identification advantage among Hispanics at 47 points (67-20), the greatest margin the Pew Hispanic Center has ever measured....If Hispanic support for the President winds up as strong as it now appears and their turnout holds up—giving Obama at least 75 percent of what should be around 28 percent of the entire vote—the benefits to the Obama campaign would be huge. Crucially, it would give him considerable leeway to lose white support but still win the popular vote. In fact, my estimates indicate that Obama, with this level of minority support, could do just as badly as John Kerry did with the white working class (a 23 point deficit) and white college graduates (an 11 point deficit) and still defeat his opponent.
What's that booming noise? Is it maybe racist heads exploding?
But please...keep supporting laws that treat every brown skinned person like a potential criminal. You'll just put yourself on the express train to the junkyard of history.

How about you Teapotters explain the "actions" of one of your own, Haley Barbour who "Pardoned" over 200 people as he left office. The majority were white and had "connections". Such as Bret Favres brother and many sons of Republican Party contributors (to Haley Barbour). Files seem to be missing, in fact one of the murderers they've been trying to round back up...is missing. The flagrant racist worries of you guys is appalling and again Ms. Emily, the DANGER from within is more "WITHIN" than you are willing to accept.

God will not bring fire and brimstone on any of these people until they come to the judgement bar. But he will not continue to feed them and furnish I-Phones in the lavish American fashion. We will see hard times, just as in the thousands of years of Old Testament history when the Israelites did in their rebellions.
Or, as Jeremiah Wright put it, "God Damn America."
You know that's what he meant, right? "Damn" as in "render harsh judgment on." Funny how it's okay when white people say it.

Dusty, you are as clever at “case building” and grasping at straws of evidence as my son the lawyer! You and Jeremiah Wright should come hear tomorrow's sermon. (Maybe I can send the CD.)
Preachers call everyone to eternal life, but must also warn of the consequences of rejecting God. I clearly said that God will not rain fire and brimstone on them (eternal damnation) before judgment day. Go ahead and live this life any way you please—I am not the judge. But in the meantime, he may withhold some of his rich blessings.
Jeremiah Wright’s Black Liberation Theology has some valid points about the corruption of modern Christianity, not just American. But the track he takes is just as far off the mark, and 20 years of listening to him gives you a room full of Barack Obama's. Google ["black liberation theology" Karl Marx] and you get over 350,000 returns. The “Christian” nature of Black Liberation Theology is further revealed by James Cones, a major personality of the cult:
"Whether the American system is beyond redemption
we will have to wait and see. But we can be certain
that black patience has run out, and unless white
America responds positively to the theory and activity
of Black Power, then a bloody, protracted civil war is
inevitable." [Black Theology and Black Power, Page 143]
Many of us look back on the history of our country and the public proclamation of God and we believe that God’s hand was in the rise of the 13 colonies to the greatest nation in the world.
We also realize that modern theology (Matthew didn’t write the Gospel of Matthew and Luke didn’t write the Gospel of Luke) has successfully separated the people of America from their daily guidance by scripture. (Christian guidance by preachers is a poor substitute for guidance by scripture.) School children learn nothing of God or his guidance for their lifestyle, and society reflects it in all 600 channels of family entertainment.
I wish that Jeremiah Wright was faithful to the original Jeremiah, Isaiah and company, who warned that their nation would not stand when they turned away from God. We don’t really have to test him on it. He doesn’t blink.

Hey MC7, I do not know if you consider me a "teapotter". I know l am not, but my suggestion is to find some charge, arrest Hailey Barber, try him and if found guilty, sentence him to the most aggressive sentence. If that is a firing squad, so be it. What he did was wrong, and more Gov.s than him do it at the end of their terms.

Is this world ever going to change? The bigotry and self centered attitudes here are shameful. It's so easy for people to hide behind their technology in their homes developing their fearful plots and schemes. Do any of you know your neighbors, have you ever gone out to a town meeting, do you say hello to strangers or talk to people you don't know? It's so easy to be a bully and a bigot feeling so superior at your computer thinking in such small minded ways thinking you can solve the problems of the world. Try getting involved in our community and get to know people and hear their stories. You have all the answers? Then try to make a difference in your own back yard before you judge the rest of the world.
moonchild7 3 months, 4 weeks ago
No, YukonJohn, you really seem to be a Libertarian (if you live by what you say) who know's the meaning of the word. Teapotters have very closed minds about many things like race relations, lots of social issues and of course the BIG fact that it does take "some" money to run the Federal Gov't. Spending our tax money in a wiser fashion is what all of us need and hopfully in his next term President Obama and Congress can get to fixing that. But maybe I just haven't read all of your posts. I do like to read them. How do you REALLY feel about President Obama? R-E-A-L-L-Y.

Here's a question, racists: A WaPo poll in December showed Obama far ahead of Romney among Latinos: Obama 68%, Romney 23%.How do you think you're going to win the general with sub-30% approval among Latinos, when George Bush narrowly won reelection in 2004 with 45%? Especially when everyone in the field seems bound and determined to treat every single one of them as illegal aliens? "
Did the WaPO indicate how many of the Latinos surveyed were illegally in this country, had committed felonies that, if legal, would prevent them from voting anyway?
JER 22 hours, 47 minutes ago It is time that we start holding people accountable for their actions." "Some of you are under the impression that anything done by our military is acceptable because you think they are on a mission from god (hey, that would make them jihadist, wouldn't it? You really have some balls to write something like that. When will you and your friends start holding Obama accountable for his actions that are sending this country into hell? ..... Last time I checked our military is not on a mission from God. They are following the orders put forth by the President and Joint Chiefs of Staff. So since the President is incharge and you say that our military are jihadist, what does that make him, A MUSLIM?
Okay, Moonchild, if we are Teapotters, you are a pothead.

wdd101st, according to the Urban Dictionary a "pothead" is: "someone who believes any problem can be fixed by smoking marijuana and/or any activity is more enjoyable while stoned." Well, I found out the "folly" of that theory several times on my finals in college in the 70's; I haven't tried to solve any problems after smoking pot since about 1983: and the lasttime I smoked any pot(early 80's) the experience was a quite nightmarish and paranoid episode. Haven't touched any since, and I never was that much of a "smoker" anyway(I've never smoked cigarettes). So, wdd101st, you can go back to the "drawing board" trying to figure me out. Good Luck, since I'm still trying to work that one out for myself. At least I'm getting a lot closer to my own Self-actualization than you Teapotters. You guys have been spinning for way too long now and don't know where or even how to go.
