It seems the North Moore wrestling team’s road doesn’t get any easier. After dropping four matches in the Thomasville Duals Saturday against tough competition, the Mustangs had to travel to second-ranked and Yadkin Valley Conference leader North Rowan Tuesday.
The host Cavaliers showed why they are one of the toughest teams in the state at the 1-A level as they posted a 60-12 victory over the Mustangs.
Once again junior Kyle Kidd and senior Dean Thomas provided the Mustangs’ lone points, with Kidd improving his season record to 20-4 with a pin of the Cavaliers’ Xavier Robinson in the 182-pound bout. Thomas pushed his season’s record to 15-5, pinning North Rowan’s Jake Becker.
The Mustangs’ overall record falls to 5-15 and 2-4 in Yadkin Valley Conference action, while North Rowan improved to 5-0 in conference action and 28-6 overall.
As the regular season starts to wind down, the Mustangs battle Albemarle Tuesday in an important Yadkin Valley Conference matchup. North Stanly will be at Albemarle for a non-conference bout. North Moore continues its league schedule, traveling to South Davidson Thursday. The conference tournament is Feb. 4 at East Montgomery.
The Midwestern Regionals are scheduled the following Saturday at Monroe, with the top four qualifying for the state tournament being held in Greensboro.
Oliver Castrejon (170 pounds), Alvaroc Coronel (160), Joe Davis (285), Cole Garner (138), Xisto Hernandez (220), Tristin Mackey (113), Ethan Morrison (152), Hunter Shaw (132), Logan Stancil (145) and Remington Summers (126) lost their matches.
Stancil and Hernandez still boast winning seasons, with Stancil standing at 13-7 and Hernandez at 11-10.
