After stumbling by four points to South Davidson in its previous game in a battle for second place in the Yadkin Valley Conference regular season race, the North Moore girls’ basketball team bounced back in a big way against Gray Stone.

Behind senior Shakorya Brower’s 19 points, the Lady Mustangs made quick work of the host Lady Knights Tuesday. North Moore raced to a 16-6 first-period lead en route to a 54-36 victory.

The victory gives the Mustangs an 8-4 conference mark and an 11-8 record overall.

The contest was the first of four straight road games for the Mustangs as the regular season winds down. North Moore travels to Albemarle tonight.

The Mustangs are still locked in a battle for third place with West Montgomery, who is currently 9-3 in league play.

After the Mustangs raced to a 10-point first-quarter lead against Gray Stone, they upped their advantage to 30-14 at the break with Brower and junior Tiosha McCaskill leading the way. North Moore continued to pad its lead in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 15-7, giving them a 45-21 lead going into the final frame.

The host Knights made the game a little closer in the final period, outscoring the Mustangs 15-9 for the final margin of 54-36.

Joining Brower in double figures for the Mustangs was McCaskill with 11 points. Cadie Lowe added eight points, followed by Holly Green and Tyisha Green with four points each. Jalisa Davis, Kayla McNeill, Casey Turner and Ashley Giles added two points each. Catherine Harward was the Knights leading scorer with 11 points.

Tonight’s contest at Albemarle is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game.
