Vikes Sweep Jags in League Hoops

Union Pines earned a sweep in 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference basketball against the Overhills Jaguars Tuesday in Spring Lake.
Led by a dominate 22-point, 19-rebound double-double from captain Tyler Ross, the Lady Vikings claimed a 54-39 win.
With the victory, Union Pines improved to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in CFVC play to remain in second place, one-half game behind first-place Southern Lee (14-2, 7-0 CFVC)
The Vikings jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead and were up 40-23 through three periods.
Senior captain point forward Crystal Hicks finished the game with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assist. Her younger sister, sophomore center Tiffany, finished with 12 points and nine boards.
Along with picking up her seventh straight double-double, Ross tallied eight steals and four assists for the Vikings.
UP Boys Bounce Back with Comeback Win
The Vikings dug deep to overcome an 11-point first half deficit to pullout a 65-58 road victory against Overhills Tuesday.
The victory kept the Vikings in the thick of things for the race for third place in the CFVC standings.
Now at 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the league, Union Pines reclaimed sole possession of the third spot, one game ahead of Douglas Byrd, which lost (5-7, 3-5) 66-34 to second-place Westover (12-6, 7-1) Tuesday.
In their last outing, the Viking boys dropped a league contest on the road by a 80-66 margin to Byrd.
Southern Lee remains atop the CFVC with at 10-1 overall mark and 7-0 record in league play.
Both the Vike boys' and girls' teams return to the floor of their home home court tonight for a non-conference double header against 2-A Jordan-Matthews. at Bob Ward Gym in Cameron.
