A Pinehurst man was found dead Tuesday in an apartment in Taylortown, according to a release from the Taylortown police department.
The man's name had not been released.
Tuesday at 11:20 a.m. Taylortown police responded to 200 Westgate Drive for a report of an alleged armed subject who had locked himself in the apartment, was under duress and may have intended to harm himself, the police department release said.
Members of the Moore County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team made two forcible entries into the rear unit of the building. A robot searched the apartment and located a white male subject in a recliner. The subject was found unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound, the release said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was transported to the medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for further examination.
