Patriots Split With Hoke County in Hoops

The Pinecrest girls rolled to a 50-36 victory at Hoke County Tuesday evening.
Janea Williams scored 15 points and Felicia Painter added 12 as the Patriots completed the first half of Southeastern Conference action with their third win in a row. They take a 3-2 league and 10-8 overall record into Friday’s home contest against Lumberton. The Bucks dropped to 2-13 and 0-5.
Freshman Jasmine Chalmers was one of the sparks during the first and third periods when the Pats outscored the Bucks a combined 35-7. The home team did rally to tie the game at 21-21 in the second quarter before the visitors regained command. Chalmers finished with nine points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
The Pinecrest boys were defeated 70-46 by Hoke in the second game. Tarique Thompson led the seventh-ranked in 4A Bucks with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
The Patriots fell behind 21-7 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 40-20 at halftime. They dropped to 2-3 in the league and 7-12 overall. The Bucks improved to 5-0 and 14-1.
Justin Ray and Adam Cummings led the Patriots with eight points apiece. They meet Lumberton in Friday’s nightcap at James Moore Gym.
