Computer and Digital Camera Classes at SCC

The month of February will see several computer and digital camera classes begin in the Continuing Education division of Sandhills Community College.

New computer users should have a basic grasp of the operating system of the machine. "Using Windows XP Level I" and "Windows 7 Level I and II" will begin in February.

If you are replacing a computer with a new laptop or desktop, you may want to transfer information. "Migrating your Old Desktop" to a new PC begins in late February.

Courses teaching specific applications that begin in February will be "Microsoft Office 2010 Using Word and PowerPoint and Quickbooks Level 1."

Apple product classes beginning in February will be "Using Your Mac Applications in Lion" and "Going Further with your iPad." The first course will explore all the pre-installed powerful applications found in Lion, including TextEdit, Safari, iCal, Mail, Stickies, and Dashboard. The iPad class takes students into the advanced features of the tablet.

"Networking Fundamentals" will cover the OSI model, TCP/IP and its protocols, networking devices, networking routing, wireless networking, networking command line tools, network tools and network security.

"Google DOCs" will also begin in February. This will teach how to publicly or privately share documents with groups, and individuals allowing users to edit and create documents-even at a distance.

"Computers in the Medical Office" will begin in mid-February.

Digital photography classes are in high demand. SCC has scheduled many to begin in February.

"Digital Photography" will teach the basic settings of a digital camera and will include taking, downloading, saving, sharing and printing photos.

Instead of keeping a camera set on automatic, learn to better understand the more advanced settings.

Offered in February are: "Getting to Know your Camera in a Day (non DLSR)," "Getting to Know Your SLR Camera," "Getting to Know Your Canon EOS DSLR in a Day," "Getting to Know Your Digital Camera and Beyond" and "Getting to Know Your Digital Camera Review."

Picasa 3 is a free download that allows you to find, organize and edit photos. Learn how to crop, remove red eye, fix the contrast and color, and write captions on your pictures. This program can also be used to share your photos, and make slideshows.

Register >at least one week prior to the starting date. Walk-in registration is at the continuing education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. Phone-in registration at (910) 695-3980, requires payment with Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. >All classes have a registration fee, and some may have a technology fee. The N.C. General Assembly authorizes a registration fee waiver for one continuing education course per semester for legal N.C. residents aged 65 years or older. The technology fee is not waived. This does not apply to courses designated as "all must pay" and community enrichment Courses. If textbooks are required, they are available in the Logan Bookstore located in the Dempsey Student Center.
