Pirkl-Lancaster Wedding
Kelly Viretta Lancaster, of Boulder, Colo., formerly of Aberdeen, and Ryan Jesse Pirkl, of Colorado, formerly of Atlanta, were married at noon on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at the Aberdeen First Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Branscome officiated at the ceremony.
A reception and luncheon, hosted by the bride's parents, was held in the fellowship hall of the church. The wedding cake was designed and made by Michael Campbell, of Greenville, uncle of the bride.
The bride is the daughter of Harry and Edith (Pat) Lancaster, of Aberdeen, and the granddaughter of the late Halbert and Donnie Campbell Sr., of Kinston, and the late Matthew and Annie Lancaster, of Durham. She is a graduate of Pinecrest High School, N.C. State University, and Georgia Institute of Technology, where she received a doctorate in computational chemistry. She is a postdoctoral research associate in the physics department at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
The groom is the son of Dennis and Shirley Pirkl, of Denver, and the grandson of Meinard and Kathleen Pirkl, of Hendersonville, and Josefina Dishong, of Florida, and the late Carl Dishong. He is a graduate of Riverheads High School, in Virginia, and received his doctorate in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a postdoctoral research associate at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder.
The bride was escorted by the groom. She wore a floor-length ivory gown made of chiffon, featuring a draped cowl neckline and capped sleeves embroidered with lace appliques throughout the bodice and covered buttons at the back.
Groomsmen were Halbert Campbell III and Chris Campbell, cousins of the bride, from Kinston. Harry Lancaster, father of the bride, and Melissa Pirkl, sister of the groom, of Asheville, served as readers. David Lancaster, of Aberdeen, and Daniel Pirkl, of Virginia, brothers of the bride and groom, served as witnesses.
Music was provided by Deborah Richardson, organist and pianist.
A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents, was held at Magnolia Inn Restaurant and Pub for the wedding party and all out-of-town guests.
The couple reside in Boulder, Colo.
