Police K-9 units on Thursday found the body of an Aberdeen man who was reported missing two days before Christmas.

The body of Derek Robinson, 43, was discovered in a wooded area about 145 feet from Columbus Drive between the Hampton Inn and the rear of the Aberdeen Pines Shopping Center, Aberdeen police said.

The body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Raleigh to determine cause of death. Police say no foul play is suspected at this time.

Police said the body was found about 1,000 yards from his home on Magnolia Avenue.

On Dec. 23, Robinson’s mother reported him missing to police. He had not been seen since Dec. 16.

Police conducted a prior search before seeking the help of three Fayetteville K-9 units, which are trained in cadaver recovery.
