Two people died today in a an early-morning fire that destroyed a home near Aberdeen, according to authorities with the Moore County Sheriff's office.

Investigators found two bodies in the home, according to the Moore County Sheriff's Office. The victims are believed to be Judith Seabolt, 81, and her daughter, Patricia Faye Rogers, 60.

The bodies have been sent to Chapel Hill for identification and to determine the cause of death.

Pinebluff Fire Chief John McIver said the two-story single family home was a total loss.

The fire at the home on Heflin Road off U.S. 15-501 was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. today when a female called 911 and reported that her kitchen was on fire and that she could not get out.

Flames completely engulfed the home. The home was less than two miles from the Hoke County line.

The Pilot isn't the only one. In the reader blogs, check out the site for:

Does it really matter how they spelled "weather" 2 people lost their lives in this fire that is what people should remember and these people had families that I am sure don't care how the pilot spelled "weather"

Amen Tarheelgal...it's not confirmed here about deaths but on WRAL 5 news it said both were deceased. I was on the scene helping another lady out of her house this morning and it was terrible. I wouldn't have cared if they spelled any word right if the fire trucks could've just gotten the call sooner and could've been able to help them. I guess no one noticed it until it was too late. I was there before any trucks trying to get her neighbor out of her house since it was so close and she's family. We couldn't tell if this family was home or not since we couldn't see if the car was in the garage. Bless this family!

AMEN! This family is in my thoughts and prayers. I am also a neighbor and had just left home before this happened. I hope that everyone will keep this family in their prayers!

"Does it really matter how they spelled "weather" 2 people lost their lives in this fire"

At the time the comments related to the spelling were made there was no mention of loss of life or even injury for that matter.

WRAL identifies the deceased as Judith Seabolt and her daughter, Patricia. Mrs. Seabolt's late husband, Paul, was a county extension agent for many, many years. This is a terrible tragedy for the Aberdeen community.

But at the time it was posted someone had lost a home what did it matter how something was spelled at that point!

Tarheelgal - In principle, I agree with you. But the problem is one of professionalism. The Pilot is the only print paper to serve our community; if the reporters and editors let such a glaring typo/misspelling slip by, then their overall credibility is questionable. Sorry - but attention to detail matters.

And it's interesting the WRAL has more detail on this story than our own local news outlet. Very disappointing, actually.

Also, The Pilot can and did correct their editing/proofreading, but they can't undo the fire or loss of life, nor can the commenter’s.

These folks probably died from smoke inhalation. It appears they could have run from the blaze but were apparently overcome by the fumes. God bless them. Not a happy new year story.

I feel horrible for this family. It is so unfortunate that for whatever reason they were not able to make it out in time. The smoke was alone you could see for a couple of miles. And I know every department had responded. I wish their family the strength to get through this tragedy.

I work at a business on US 1 and I was outside this morning when 2 engines raced by heading for (now I know) that fatal fire in Pinebluff. For nearly 35 years I was a cartoonist who did occupational cartoons. Many of them were about Firefighters and Cops. I poked fun from their viewpoint not at them. Recently I was in a large city when two other engines raced by on their way to a fire. They had a crew cab behind the driver which held about six firefighters. I was struck by the face of a young firefighter who was looking out the window. It was totally expressionless. I realized he was probably organizing his thoughts about what was ahead of him but it occurred to me that his face reflected the fact that on every call firefighters go out on, there are no guarantees...someone may die. I don't know where we get these people who are so willing to lay down their lives for us everyday. Today's fire in Pinebluff went the other way and the firefighters have to deal with that.also. I pray for the lost and those that tried to save them.

Peterprints, Thank you for you comments and observations. I'm sure that you have given many food for thought. We all should be thankful for those who choose to serve & protect. My sympathy to the Seabolt family.

As I drove to the SBI academy this morning, I listened to the sickening words come across the pager "possible life hazard" and "we lost contact with the caller". Those words are terrible to every firefighter that has to respond and sometimes even worse to the rest of us who feel helpless because we cannot. Those of you that feel like this is the time to criticize the Pilot's editing skills need to find a better venue. Write a letter to the editor instead of airing your ridiculous grievances during a time when a family is mourning two loved ones. You should be ashamed of yourselves, honestly. Condolences to the family.

When the story first ran it gave the impression that the dwelling was unoccupied. It is misleading to indicate callousness by the posters in this case.

Bless the family. This was a tragic event and the Pilot may have spelled it wrong, maybe being in a hurry so WE could be informed , I pray for the family and the firefighters that had to witness such a horrific thing.
