U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers made a brief stop in Moore County today and told a crowd that she plans to file for re-election later this week.
Ellmers spoke to about 30 supporters outside the the old library building on South West Broad Street Monday.
“This is about meeting folks, me getting to know everyone and everyone gettingto know me and what I stand for,” Ellmers said.
Ellmers, a Harnett County Republican spoke, for about 15 minutes and then greeted members of the crowd, answering questions and posing for photos.
She stressed a partnership with voters that would help her continue her efforts to decrease the size of the federal government, decrease business regulation, lower taxes and repeal “Obama care.”
“I need your support,” she said. “I need your vote. I need you to help me. We’re in this together. It has got to be a team effort. This isn’t one person or a combination of a couple people going to Washington (D.C.) to change things. This is about all of you coming with me every day to fight against those who are keeping our country down.”
Ellmers said she plans to file for re-election Wednesday. Ellmers unseated veteran Democrat Bob Etheridge in 2010.
Moore County, formerly in the Sixth District, is now part of the new 2nd Congressional District. The 6th District is represented by 14-term Republican Rep. Howard Coble, who is also seeking re-election.
Ellmers said she is reminded each time she comes to Moore County how beloved Coble is here, calling him a friend and mentor.
“You are in even better hands now because you have both of us working for you,” she said.
Moore and Lee are the only counties in the newly drawn 2nd District that are not broken up into two or more districts. The new 2nd District includes most of Randolph, Chatham and Hoke counties, part of Cumberland, Harnett and Wake counties and a tiny piece of Alamance.
Two other Republicans have already filed for Ellmers’ seat — Clement F. Munno, of Aberdeen, and Sonya Holmes, of Lee County.
Ellmers said after her speech that she expects the new 2nd District to be a more conservative district. She called the change “bittersweet” but said she will continue to fight for all North Carolinians.
Her plans, she said, will include future trips to Moore County.
“We want to spend as much time as we can here,” she said. “We will be back — very often.”

I wouldn't vote for her if she was the last candidate on the planet.

I wish I would have known about this is advance, thanks for the notice...
Admittingly, I do not know much about her - I would have loved the opportunity to ask her in person, in front of the crowd, about her views on medical marijuana, since its going to be on the ballet this year.

A young, narrow-minded, Female, Howard Coble..... I'll pass..

RmeMP; While you need to stay on your toes when voting, I would hardly call it a ballet.

I'm actually surprised that Ellmers, a big TP favorite, found the time to come to Moore County. She has been joined at the hip with the Speaker of the House since arriving in Washington. Next time you see Boehner on TV, note who is at his side most of the time. I would think that would go against the grain of most in the TP.

That's a very flattering picture. I am surprised the Pilot chose that one.

fugitiveguy-- You mean this Maxine Waters? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IouL4W.... Liberals love her until she says what's really on her mind, like here. And harleyman (5 hours ago), your post was disgusting. I'm sure her husband would love to have a word with you. Maybe you'd like to explain your comment to their son. I am pretty slow to anger, but harleyman you seem to stretch the bounds of decency with every post. Perhaps you think your posts are funny, or really clever. They are neither.

harleyman-- I don't think you're a bad guy. You've made some good points on this blog from time to time. But for goodness sake, don't bring up this nonsense in your post unless her husband says it's OK.

Harley...you're stretching the boundary! You're looking for a good old fashioned butt kicking from somebody with the way you keep making childish comments about people's wives.

She has a pained look on her face. Maybe she needs someone to work with her on public speaking.

PaleRider: I'm a Wolfpack fan and I bet you wouldn't vote for me. But, then again, if that's how you choose candidates, maybe you would.

In the photo above, we see Ellmers launching into her rendition of "You Are So Gullible ....To Me". It's a popular tune in DC, where it never fails to bring the House down.
