Picerno Among Early Filers for Office

Current County Commissioner Nick Picerno is among four local candidates who filed for state and county elections.

Picerno is one of two candidates who have filed in the race for two county commissioner seats. Picerno has filed for re-election to District II, which Randy Saunders, a member of the Village of Whispering Pines Council, has filed for County Commissioner District IV.

Both are Republicans.

District IV incumbent commissioner Tim Lea announced last week that he would not seek re-election. Lea has served on the board since 2004.

Aberdeen resident Tommy Davis has filed as a Republican candidate for N.C. Senate District 29.

Moore County is being moved from District 22 to District 29 under redistricting. Current state Sen. Harris Blake is not seeking re-election.

Incumbent School Board member Bruce Cunningham has filed for re-election in District V.

The filing period for the November election runs through noon on Feb. 29.

Good luck Nick and thanks for serving. Tommy, have you lost your mind? If you win the senate seat you will have to change your license plate and buy a bunch of property. I think it's a law. All of you who file please remember the fracking issue. It is bad news unless you are a big landowner. They will promise revenues to lawmakers that will spin dollar signs but you need to do your research. I have. Hydro and Nuclear energy are clean and safe as long as they are regulated. Fracking is regulated and they have already screwed up plenty. Please get on top of this issue for us. In Carthage we could have just one disaster lock our water supply up. Thanks again for ya'll's willingness to run.

Lee a new license plate and a good car wash, might make my old car look impressive. I expect that if I were to win, the State Highway Patrol would be stopping me every few miles thinking I stole the plate!

If you've read some of my threads, I am strictly opposed to "fracking" here in NC. It would take 10 lifetimes to clean up the mess and our natural water systems corrupted forever. You have my vote. Tommy

Tommy Davis and Republican in the same sentence? Maybe the Hopi and Mayans were correct!

clbvpm ~ That's how I'm registered. I've stated many times, I'm not a politician! And if what I see going on in Raleigh and Washington, I never will fit the mold. I am an independent thinking, not a member of the "good old boys club". I have compassion for those who live on the margins of our society, the homeless, the poor, and the elderly. The government has stolen from Social Security for decades and have wasted trillions on pork barrel politics. This county and country are spending out grandchildren into decades of uncertainty and debt.

I have reservations where I will have more than two votes, my wife's and mine. At least I have stepped up to the plate and willing to take anything thrown at me to bring social consciousness back into being American. The alternative is the same ol' , same ol', no term limits until carried out on a gurney. Should by some stroke of divine intervention, I would not serve more than 8 years, no more than a county commissioner. 4 - 2 year terms in the Senate, if I last that long. Before going out on a limb so to speak, have a look at Jerry Tillman's voting record. If you happen to be an animal lover, he voted against the Puppy Mill Bill three times, just like your former Senator.

Curious Toda, why not change your party and run independant? I agree with Clbvpm - you running as a republican is as much of a joke, as it is an insult to REAL republicans. I respect your decision to run and wish you the best of luck, but republican views you do not have - based on MANY of your posted comments on this site.

Either way, good luck to you sir!

JoeGarrison ~ you still have time to file for the primary! Congratulations with your new baby boy. I pray Samantha is doing well.

Too late RmeMP...I'm not cut from the same fabric and don't hold true everyone else's views. The problem with politics, some stay too long, and voters never have a grasp on issues nor do they vote with previous voting records in mind. It's called Indiana Style Voting. Like I said, "I'm willing to step up to the plate", as many have so eloquently pointed out. Anyone is welcomed to join the funny season...Remember, I don't go along to get along!

Joe ~ having three grandchildren, I can emphasize with you. I also understand why you are not seeking public office: Diaper attention function. If you even considered an office, there would be a beat down in West End...I finally had the privilege to meet your mother-in-law. A first class lady, and quite a lovey person. I was very impressed.

Well I got to learn before I even get to the point of insanity where I would run for office:) Amen to the statement of praise for my Mother in law. She truly is a gem and I am blessed to be in such a wonderful family.
