Pinecrest fell short in its bid to capture a state 4-A dual team wrestling championship today as Parkland posted a 36-25 win.
The Patriots knew they faced a tall order entering the finals. Parkland had captured five dual titles in a row, including three on the 3-A level and the last two in 4-A competition.
This was the first time that Pinecrest had ever reached the finals in dual competition.
Trailing 32-21, the Patriots needed pins in the last two bouts to pull out the win but weren't able to pull off what would have been a monumental upset against the now six-time defending state champs.
The season is not over for the Patriots. Next weekend, Pinecrest will be the site of regional competition in state individual competition.
The two-day event begins Friday. The top-four finishers in each weight class advance to the state finals, set for Greensboro Coliseum on Feb. 24-25.

Pinecrsst has definitely turned its wrestling program around in the past few years. Though the Patriots fell short in capturing the 4A state dual title, I feel that they will have an excellent showing in the individual championships.
