Golf and Love: Robert and Valerie Pimentel have been enjoying love and a career in administration at the Myrtle Beach campus of the Golf Academy of America for almost five years.
Robert was hired as an instructor in 1999, and he closed his “Golf Mechanic” business three years later when the position became full time.
“I always wanted to play golf on TV (as a PGA Tour professional), but when I realized that I wasn’t good enough, I turned my hobby of clubfitting into my profession,” Pimentel said. “The classroom is my shop now. And it’s neat for me to teach students what I was taught.”
Valerie joined the staff at the GAA campus in 2006 and advanced to become director of admissions in 2010. In May 2009, the two were married.
“It’s rewarding to work with the students and watch them grow as people,” she said. “It makes you feel good when they get a nice job and they call back to thank you for everything you did to help them.”
The trick for the Pimentels is knowing how to become a couple again once the day is done.
“As soon as we walk out the door, we leave it here,” said Valerie.
