For the 27th anniversary of the Heart 'n' Soul of Jazz event, the Arts Council of Moore County and Pinehurst Resort will present, straight from New York's famous Oak Room, the Brian Newman Quartet on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m., at the Carolina Hotel at Pinehurst Resort.
To round out this special weekend of jazz, guitarist and harmonica player Pat Bergeson and his quartet will perform with vocalist Annie Sellick on Friday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m.
Trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman has performed at a variety of legendary jazz venues, such as Birdland, Oak Room, The Blue Note and Feinstein's.
He has been called "brilliant" by The New York Times, and as a band leader and a sideman, he continues to perform throughout New York City and abroad, adding his personal style and touch to every note.
Originally from Cleveland, Newman finished school at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and immediately headed for New York City, where he has been performing music from the American songbook with some of the most talented performers in the city.
One such unique appearance includes Lady Gaga's 2011 MTV Video Music Awards promos. He was also named official trumpet player of "The Greg James Show" on BBC.
