Breakfast
Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue will be holding its annual Valentine’s Breakfast Saturday, Feb. 11, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Vass Rescue Building, 211 E. Main Street, Vass.
The buffet breakfast is $7 per person.
Greenway Workshop
Dennis Markatos-Soriano, executive director of the East Coast Greenway Alliance, will speak at a workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 11, at the village hall, 395 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst.
He will talk about plans to develop a Greenway Trail route stretching 3,000 miles from the Canadian border in Maine all the way down the coast to Key West. Mark Wagner, village of Pinehurst, will talk about the current status and future plans for the Pinehurst Greenway Trail and how it will link into the East Coast Greenway through Southern Pines and Fort Bragg.

Senior Center Events
Valentine’s Pianists
On Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center will host a gathering of senior pianists for an early Valentine’s Day celebration.
The second year of the concert, the theme is best stated by the Irving Berlin song “I Love a Piano.” An exploration of piano music will be held, free to all, as numerous seniors will play a wide variety of pieces in many styles.
Participants have been asked to play their favorite pieces. All have experience playing in public, ranging from churches to bands. Some offer lessons.
Of particular interest is the participation of Warren Beall, whose playing for numerous senior residences will be honored. Beall himself is well past his 90th year.
Retirement Income
Join Mark Hollingsworth and Brianna Dillon, financial advisers from Raymond James & Associates, at the Senior Enrichment Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m., as they explore the formula for creating a sensible financial income plan geared toward retirement and fixed income. There will be a discussion portion, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Medicare Seminar
Medicare-related decisions can be overwhelming and confusing.
On Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., Jill Sherman and Jeanette Peterson, from the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), will help attendees sort through the Medicare options available to those turning 65.
Learn about Medicare Part A and Part B, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare drug plans. Find out about help that is available for qualified Medicare beneficiaries who are unable to pay the high cost of their prescriptions.
The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) offers free and unbiased information regarding Medicare health care products.
The Moore County Senior Enrichment Center is located on U.S. 15-501 north of the Pinehurst Traffic Circle.

Pet Adoption Event
The Aberdeen PetSmart is hosting five of the area’s animal rescues for a huge pet adopt-a-thon Friday, Feb. 10, through Sunday, Feb. 12.
Animal Advocates, the Haven, Moore Humane, Sandhills Animal Rescue League and Scotland County Humane Society will participate in the event.
They are joining a national initiative that PetSmart conducts four times a year at every store in the country to help find forever homes for rescue pets.
Book Sale
The Friends of the Moore County Library will hold a book sale, Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday through Thursday, Feb. 13-16, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Moore County Library, 101 Saunders St., Carthage.

Concert
The Sandhills Community College Jazz Band will present a Valentine’s Day concert, Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m., in Owens Auditorium.
