The Pinecrest boys dropped their fifth game in a row 66-53 at Richmond Senior Tuesday evening.

Adam Cumming led the Patriots with 16 points, including four threes. Other double-figure scorers for the Pats were Frankie Painter with 12 points and Brendan Ortiz with 10. Shydamion Ellerbe scored 19 to pace the Raiders.

The Patriots take a 7-16 record overall and 2-7 mark in the Southeastern Conference, into tonight’s 7:30 p.m. regular-season final game against Hoke County. It will also be senior night at James Moore Gymnasium. The Raiders improved to 15-5 and 4-5.

The Patriots took their final lead of the game late in the first period at 10-8 on a three by Sam Brower. Ellerbe and Jordan Richardson took advantage of their size advantage to score 17 points in a first half that ended with the Raiders in front 31-23.

Cummings and Ortiz led a third-quarter rally that twice brought the Patriots to within two points of the lead. Cummings inbounded the ball to Ortiz for a basket, cutting the deficit to 38-36. Moments later a putback by Ortiz kept it that way at 40-38. But the Raiders finished the period with an 8-0 run to regain control.

Painter, with six points, and Cummings, with five, sparked one more Patriot bid to get back in the game after they fell behind 50-38. A steal for two and then a three by Cummings, made it 52-47 with about four minutes remaining in the game. Ellerbe went five-for-six at the foul line down the stretch to seal it for the Raiders.
