Southern Pines police are looking for a man who entered a car with two small children inside that was left running outside a daycare Tuesday.

Police say a woman parked a vehicle between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. outside the Humpty Dumpty Daycare, 1725 Richards St. She left the vehicle running with her two small children inside while she took a third child into the daycare.

When the woman went inside, daycare employees called authorities after they observed an unidentified male enter the woman's vehicle. The incident was recorded on a video camera in the parking lot.

Nothing was taken from inside the vehicle, police said.

The children inside the vehicle described the subject as a light-skinned black male wearing a white mask over his face. The suspect fled the area on foot.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Southern Pines Police at 692-7031 or on the anonymous tip line, 910-693-4110.

Why did she leave the kids in a running car? Glad they're okay.

Isn't it against the law to leave a parked car running (whether kids present or not)?
