System Needed

The tragedy in Newtown, Conn., is a horrible reminder that awful things can happen to good people at any time or in any place. It makes us all aware of how fortunate we are to have what we have, when our families are safe and sound.

The usual suspects are trying again to overturn the Second Amendment, using this. People, not guns, kill people and will find whatever weapon they can to do so. Also, the Second Amendment was meant to allow us to be able to form an equally well-armed militia if ever we felt that our government had become tyrannical.

Another faction wants to further erode the First Amendment by trying to control what video games or shows our children watch.

Good parents control what their children watch. They also teach their children the difference between right and wrong, so they can use the proper judgment when confronted with situations that might be harmful to others. When the child has a mental problem, that is another story. In fact, that is the story here.

This young man had Asperger’s syndrome. The symptoms and solutions for this or similar disorders are not totally clear, but there is certainly knowledge that there is help needed.

Some say the drugs cause the problem and others say not taking them does. Both need investigating.

When someone shows a propensity to harm themselves or others, they have to be able to be placed where they can get the needed help. If it can be done without drugs, so much the better.

The system today provides too many rights to those incapable of making the right choices. They have to actually kill someone before it can be determined that they might.

The mentally ill need as good a system as the mentally handicapped.

People with assault rifle clones & high capacity magazines kill multiple people in wholsale fashion very quickly. People without firearms kill them one at a time. Real hunters use bolt action rifles and shotguns with 3 round magazines. Small bore pistols are more than sufficient for personal defense. The only game for which assault rifles and their clones are intended is people. The usual suspects are getting tired of the carnage, the usual excuses, the usual platitudes and the insane repetition of behavior expecting better or different results by pouring more firearms into the circulation. If the nut cases can't get their hands on the tools that will allow mass, rapid killing in the first place then there will be time to endlesly psychoanalyze them. The idea that the second amendment was drafted to arm Americans against our own Federal Government is asinine, if you read and understand the language it was so drafted to guarantee the ability to raise a militia, period. The modern equivalent of a militia is the military, military reserves, National Guard, and law enforcement, Federal, state and local. Sounds like Polk is a "Marshal Dillon" wannabe.

OP...how about you simply live life the way you wish and leave the rest of us alone as it is very obvious that you haven't a clue about firearms...or militias. The military, National Guard, etc. is NOT the equivalent of the old militia. Suppose you read a little out of the Federalist Papers and report back to us. Might change your understanding of the 2nd Amendment and what it stood for.

“Also, the Second Amendment was meant to allow us to be able to form an equally well-armed militia if ever we felt that our government had become tyrannical.” Damn straight there Polk. Why I just recently ordered myself up one of those there drones. Can’t be too careful ya know. I’m sure the authors of the 2nd amendment intended for us patriots to stay current in our weaponry. Should be coming by UPS any day now. Have to park it in the yard though. Haven’t had time to get myself a concealed parking permit yet.

You know, if you really need to protect yourself from the people you elected to represent you, maybe you need to start be more friendly with Iran or North Korea. The USA has the largest military on earth and comes equipped with nukes. If you are going to arm yourselves as private citizens to defend yourself in case your government does something you don't like, you are going to need more than your own little arsenals tucked away in your bedrooms. You'll need some nukes of your own and I'll bet either of those two countries will be more than willing to come to your aid. Of course, if all that talk is just a smokescreen to hide your real reasons for having weapons of mass destruction as part of your personal arsenal, then you won't really be needing nukes, will you. May I suggest that a great many of you needing semi-automatic weapons with high capacity clips have them as some sort of male enhancement device. Kind of artificial balls if you will. I note that many of you like to have your picture made holding your weapon of mass destruction in all sorts of macho poses. Kind of like teenage boys standing naked in front of a mirror. You guys know who you are. The rest of us know that every so often, 20 little kids must be sacrificed so that you continue to have your right to look like the guys in the video games. It's the price that must be paid for your freedom to own these weapons of mass destruction. And yes, skylinefirepest, I already know you think I'm an ass so you can save the usual rant for someone else.

For some reason you folks seem to be under the belief that the military and law enforcement will fall lock step or goose step behind a government that steps too far over the line. How do yo know that it would not be they that begin the rebellion? Tyrants may not have the muscle they think when it hits he fan. No, citizens will not need to keep weapons to take over the government. I do not believe they are that stupid to try. What the citizens may need their weapons for is self protection when the Bloated Wart Hog that is our government falls under its own weight. When the checks no longer come and the little plastic card no longer works, the zombies will get a little restless. Riots are ugly things.

wdd101st, regarding the drug issue: you are aware of the laws of supply and demand? There is a supply of drugs in this country to meet the demand. As much as we would like to blame drug smugglers or Latin American countries for the drug problem in this country, the problem is us.

DannySteen, I agree. Many of us know that at the rate that our Govt. is spending and printing money, it is unstainable for a very long time. The criminal element will try and keep getting "theirs" unless confronted by the rightful owner, and are dispatched. It is already getting bad everywhere, even here in Alaska. One needs to be able to protect theirselves against whatever. Be Prepared!! And Jim, do you disagree with what the founders and men who established our union? Have you read their writings? You seem very intelligent, but what you say does not "square up" with what they wrote.

No Jim, I don't think you're an ass...believe it or not. And as long as you wish to talk trash about law abiding gun owners then you can expect another rant from me. I will not allow lies and stupidity to go un-challenged in these blogs. You really have started making stupid comments about guns and gun owners and it's a little frustrating that you won't take the time to enlarge you education on firearms even just a little. Stupid comments lately, Jim...you have certainly changed in a month or so.

So does this mean you are NOW ready to discuss Fast and Furious Jimruss? You made excuses for clinton and ended up with 8 years of bush! You made excuses or totally ignored the assault rifle issue when you were afraid it would make obama look bad and ended up with the blood of 20 kids on your hands Jimmy. You would think you sheep would have learned something by now!

justpassingby2 4 months, 2 weeks ago

Could somebody repost or post a link to the article(s), opinion pieces, etc. written by someone at The Pilot about assault rifles after Fast and Furious broke? Thanks!

justpassingby2: What in the hell are you talking about? Now I"M responsible for the killings?

0

JimRussell44 4 months, 2 weeks ago

skylinefirepest: My message will remain the same: I do not favor banning guns. I do favor banning weapons of mass destruction in the hands of ordinary citizens. I don't need or want to know any more about guns than that. If that is a stupid stance to take then I will be proudly stupid.

JimRussell44, I bet, truth be known, that there is not one person on here that would tell you that you should own a gun. We are not interested in the fact that you choose not to carry a weapon. What I am saying is that Constitutionally, there will be no restrictions on what l own. I am a law-abiding citizen with no felonies in my past. We just want to be left to our natural rights.

Let's discuss Fast and Furious JimRuss. Explain why assault rifles being sold illegally to thugs by your government didn't interest you enough then to post about them but now you do. Take a cue from dusty and realize how stupid you look and just shut up!

justpissingboy's stopped posting in ALL CAPS for once. Guess the meds are kicking in.

Hey, justpissingboy: No one gives a damn about Fast and Furious anymore. Months of investigations turned up no criminal wrongdoing by the President. Your feeble attempts to gin this up into an Obama destroying scandal failed. I guess you can't let it go, twisted little obsessive freak that you are. But the rest of the world has.

Now post something else crazy so I can share it across the net and have a couple of thousand people laughing at you on Facebook again.

If you are going to arm yourselves as private citizens to defend yourself in case your government does something you don't like, you are going to need more than your own little arsenals tucked away in your bedrooms.

Isn't it ironic that the very people who are always calling for more military spending are the most determined to arm themselves against that same military?

Because that's what all of this "we need to defend ourselves against the government" boils down to: the need to someday be able to kill cops and soldiers. Or did you think Obama was going to come to your house personally and oppress you?

Jim, you just keep repeating nonsense...there is no wmd in private hands, understand?? If you know otherwise then I'm sure you can alert the proper authorities.

The Republican controlled Indiana House just enacted a bill approved by the NRA that allows homeowners to kill police officers they "believe" are in their homes illegally:

there is no wmd in private hands, understand??

NCGS § 14‑288.8 :

(c) The term "weapon of mass death and destruction" includes: (1) Any explosive or incendiary: a. Bomb; or b. Grenade; or c. Rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces; or d. Missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one‑quarter ounce; or e. Mine; or f. Device similar to any of the devices described above; or (2) Any type of weapon (other than a shotgun or a shotgun shell of a type particularly suitable for sporting purposes) which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, and which has any barrel with a bore of more than one‑half inch in diameter; or (3) Any firearm capable of fully automatic fire, any shotgun with a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length or an overall length of less than 26 inches, any rifle with a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length or an overall length of less than 26 inches, any muffler or silencer for any firearm, whether or not such firearm is included within this definition. For the purposes of this section, rifle is defined as a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder; or (4) Any combination of parts either designed or intended for use in converting any device into any weapon described above and from which a weapon of mass death and destruction may readily be assembled.

If it's a weapon and can cause mass descrution (that what killing 27 people in 10 minutes is) then IT IS A WEAPON OF MASS DESCRUCTION!!!

0

skylinefirepest 4 months, 2 weeks ago

Jim...you are continuing to spout foolishness... it would be extremely easy to kill thirty or more people in ten minutes with any of several different types of weapons, not particularly firearms or explosives. You'll not get by with any reasonable person by spouting that kind of crap. Go back and read Dusty's comment on wmd.

I just realized that the liberals that have posted here have just backed Bush's attack on Iraq. They did have WMDs as thay certainly have plenty of assault rifles. They can no longer say that Iraq didn't have any WMDs and that Bush was not justified in attacking Iraq.

{The system today provides too many rights to to those incapable of making right choices} I keep my high power, large magazine ,semiautomatic under the bed. Just in case I have to invoke my second amendment rights. Where do you keep yours?

0

coffecreme 4 months, 2 weeks ago

Less than ten minutes. I believe it was less than five minutes that kid mowed down 20 little children and 6 adults.

0

skylinefirepest 4 months, 2 weeks ago

The point is Creme that we've been down this road before...with zero results. Now a woman who wants to ban all firearms wants us to be fingerprinted and registered. Ain't gonna happen!! And I too, find it somewhat disconcerting that the Dems want to do away with firearms because of the deaths of twenty kids BUT killing several million a year doesn't bother them in the slightest because it falls under the Republican "War on Women!" and it's simply a woman's "choice". Disgusting!
