Sunrise Fundraiser

Christmas carols and popular holiday tunes will fill the air at Sunrise Theater when the Murphy Family takes the stage for a holiday concert tonight, Friday, Dec. 21.

Popular hometown musician Paul Murphy will be joined by his wife and children to present a Christmas concert featuring a potpourri of music.

Representing an array of musical genres, this talented family can and will do it all, from jazz to spiritual hymns to Brazilian Bossa to today's hits.

Paul Murphy, a minister and professional musician, will be performing saxophone and piano. His wife, Sharon, and 23-year-old daughter, Anna, will both perform vocals, and so will their youngest son, Greene, 12. They will be joined by sons Drake, 28, and Kent, 26, who are currently working together as composers and music producers around the world.

Dr. Larry Arnold will be on bass, and Gary Brown will play drums and piano.

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater in downtown Southern Pines. Tickets are $20 for VIP seats (first six rows), $15 for general admission, and $10 for children 12 and under.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.sunrisetheater.com or though the administrative office at (910) 692-8501. They will also be sold at the door while supplies last.

All proceeds from this concert go to support the Sunrise Theater Digital Cinema Campaign.

The Sunrise Theater is a nonprofit organization located at 250 NW Broad St. in Southern Pines.

Project Santa

Attention, kids! Children of all ages are welcome to join Earl Wright, Sharon Thompson and their elves on Christmas morning to pick up a bicycle free of charge. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Bring three nonperishable food items in exchange for a bike. All food donated will be given to the Sandhills Branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Festivities begin at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of Bo's Food Store at 750 SW Broad St. in Southern Pines and last until 10 a.m.

Special Christmas Programs

Many Moore County churches are offering special programs and services this weekend. These are free events that are open to all members of the community.

'Dessert Theater'

Sandhills Assembly of God in Southern Pines will be hosting a Christmas "Dessert Theater," with Don and Debi Gatlyn, Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.

There will also be a special performance by the Sandhills Assembly Children's Bell Choir.

The church is located at 6481 U.S. 1 North.

Christmas Showcase

Greater Glory Pentecostal Deliverance Church will have its annual "Gospel Karaoke Christmas Showcase Celebration and Potluck Dinner Fellowship," Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.

The church is located at 1000 W. New Hampshire Ave., Southern Pines.

Contemporary Musical

On Dec. 21, Pinehurst United Methodist Church will host a contemporary Christian musical titled "Behold the Lamb," beginning at 6:30 pm.

The church is located at 4111 Airport Road, in Pinehurst.

'Blue Christmas'

Seven Lakes Chapel in the Pines will host a special "Blue Christmas" worship service with Communion on Dec. 21, at 5 p.m.

The church is located at 581 Seven Lakes North, West End.

Christmas Musical

Harmony Baptist Church will host the Christmas production "Take Me to the King," Saturday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m. The program is produced by the group Four Heart Harmony.

The church is located at 3624 N.C. 73, West End.

Children's Musical

The children of Ives Memorial Baptist Church will perform "The Christmas Shoe Tree," created by Jeff Slaughter, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

The church is located on the corner of Philadelphia Avenue and Grape Street, in Pinebluff.

Cantata and Play

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will host a Christmas cantata, performed by the Worship Choir, at the 11 a.m. service Sunday, Dec. 23, and a Christmas play by the youth at 7 p.m. that evening. Refreshments will follow the evening performance.

The church is located at 2237 Camp Easter Road, Southern Pines.

Lessons and Carols

Bethesda Presbyterian Church will be offering a "Lessons and Carols" service, Sunday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m.

The adult choirs, the hand bell choirs and the Moore Brass will join the church organist and the voices of the congregation in musical celebration and praise.

The church is located on U.S. 1, in Aberdeen.

Christmas Program

On Sunday, Dec. 23, following the regular church service, members of Shady Grove will have their annual Christmas program.

The program features caroling, Christmas skits, poems old and new, a gift exchange, bags of goodies, etc.

The church is located two miles east of Aberdeen on N.C. 211.

Christian Drama

Emmanuel Baptist Church will present a Christian drama at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

The church is located at 632 McCrimmon Road, Carthage.

Christmas Eve Services

Beaver Creek Baptist Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located at 2280 Nicholson Road, Cameron.

Bethesda Presbyterian will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 11 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located on U.S. 1, Aberdeen.

Community Congregational Church of Southern Pines will hold its annual Candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located at 141 Bennett St., Southern Pines.

Congregational Church of Pinehurst will hold a candlelight and Communion worship at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item, blanket or coat, wrapped in white tissue paper, for the Sandhills Coalition. The church is located at 895 Linden Road, Pinehurst.

Culdee Presbyterian Church will hold a candlelight service, with Communion at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located on N.C. 73, in West End.

Cypress Presbyterian Church will hold Christmas Eve worship services at 4 and 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The 4 p.m. service is especially for families with young children and for those who don't drive at night. The 10 p.m. service will include the celebration of Communion. The church is located at 1220 Cypress Church Road, Cameron.

Ives Memorial Baptist Church will be holding a Christmas Eve candlelight service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. The church is located at 365 E. Philadelphia Ave., Pinebluff.

McDonald's Chapel Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1374 Foxfire Road, Aberdeen.

Pinehurst UMC will hold a special 5 p.m. Christmas Eve family service Monday, Dec. 24, with the annual children's pageant. It will be followed by traditional candlelight services at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. the same evening. The church is located at 4111 Airport Road in Pinehurst.

St. Paul Lutheran Church will hold a candlelight service at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located at 144 Westgate Drive, behind Premier Lighting, on N.C. 211, west of Pinehurst.

Southern Pines UMC will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. The church is located at 175 Midland Road, Southern Pines.

The Village Chapel will hold "Lessons and Carols," featuring a live nativity, at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, and a candlelight Communion will be held at 9 p.m., featuring The Village Chapel Choir. Communion will be served at 10 a.m. Christmas Day. The church is located at 10 Azalea Road, Pinehurst.

West End UMC will hold a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m. Communion will be served. The church is located at 4015 N.C. 73, West End.
