Mustang Wrestlers Top South Robeson

The North Moore wrestling team took the short trip to Biscoe Thursday for its second tri-match in as many days.

The Mustangs picked up their second dual match victory with a 54-27 win over South Robeson. North Moore narrowly lost to East Montgomery, a team that’s expected to be among the top teams in the Yadkin Valley Conference. The Mustangs dropped the match to the Eagles 42-35.

The Mustangs’ record for the season stands at 2-6.

Mustang senior Kyle Kidd continued to keep his individual record perfect with forfeits in both his 182-pound matches. The two forfeits put Kidd’s season record at 14-0 with nine of his wins coming with pins of his opponents. Senior teammate Logan Stancil improved his overall record to 8-4, receiving a forfeit from South Robeson and winning by a tech fall over East’s Levi Rushing. Three of Stancil’s wins come from pins.

North Moore sophomore Joe Davis won a pair of matches in the heavyweight division, pinning South Robeson’s Zach Stubbs at the 4:34 mark and the Eagles’ Undre Ross with 5:36 showing on the match clock. Davis’ record stands at 10-5, with nine of the victories coming from pins.

Senior Paul Grant (220-pound class), freshmen Chris Renzi and Enrique Bautista received forfeits in both of their matches. Senior Cole Garner (152), freshmen Chase Richardson (120) and Nicholas Smith (195) picked up forfeit wins against South Robeson, but lost their matches to East Montgomery. Garner lost to Antonio Hill, Richardson to Isaias Gomez, and Smith to Charles Callahan.

North Moore freshman Garrett Kidd lost a 13-10 decision to South’s Moses Davis and was pinned by East’s Daniel Lopaz. Sophomore Ian Farris also suffered a pair of losses, losing to South’s Tyrone McKay and East’s Reynaldo Martinez.

In their final tri-match before taking a break for the holidays, the Mustangs travel to Providence Grove tonight (Wednesday).

where they will also battle Bartlett Yancy. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
